Race and dating

Your thoughts on the elephant in the room

lilplatinum
I hate myself for it because it really upsets me when I hear some guys say that they don't find black women attractive but I guess all it comes down to is that we all have our own preferences.
Does it piss you off as much when people say they don't find short/tall/overly fat/overly small/redheads/pale women attractive?

I don't particularly dig black women, but then again my pale ass doesn't particularly dig white women who tan too much (let alone the orange color that german girls tend to like to do to themself).
Hazza
Why? You describe people by looks - the blonde guy, the redhead, this tall one over there, so the asian girl or the black lady in my eyes is just a description which has nothing to do with race but looks.
I agree with that. I have no problem as being described as "the dark guy". It's descriptive and I could only imagine someone having a problem with that, if they were unhappy with their "race". If that's the case, then they probably have bigger problems to worry about.

I'm not, so it's not offensive to me...

you tend to describe people by the atttributes that stand out most. You wouldn't describe someone as THE black guy if he was in a room full of black guys. You'd pick some other feature that is likely to stand out. Things that tend to stand out are hair colour and length, skin colour, height and build. Then maybe attire and whether they wear glasses etc.

Basically, you try and distinguish someone using the most identifiable features and for this reason I don't have a problem referring to skin colour if it is the easiest and most direct way of communicating a point.
Yup. was in a beer garden last summer and in a group of blokes I thought I recognised one of them and mentioned it to whoever I was with. As in "Hmm, I think I know that guy". "Which one". "The black guy". I proceeded to get a bit of a telling off for saying "the black guy". Christ, he was the one black guy in a group with about 5 or 6 white guys.

Hazza. I would have thought almost everybody would describe you as white?
Hazza
Really?? I've actually never been called white
Owain Glyndwr
i've never really thought of you as not-white, to be honest.
Pas
I certainly thought so at first until you told me about your ancestry.
Hazza
I seriously just looked at photos online and compared my skin-tone to that of the people around me!!

I'm noticeably darker.

However, I consider it only a good thing that you didn't take any notice...
Keydeck
It's your unique Hazzaness which stands out. You just look kinda Hazzanian.
Hazza
Or perhaps I just hang out with people who are particularly pale?
Johnny English
Your fault for making them all drink in a dingy cellar bar for years. They all ended up looking like Gollum.
BattalionBoy
I've been with all sorts and will continue to do so.
I am calling you Liquorice from now on.
phaedrus
h-uh I always thought of Hazza as Indian neither white or non-white.
Pas
And I always, and still do, think of him as Aussie. Such a fine example of why it's all bollox.
Hazza
Sure, but if I was in a room full of pale white people and someone asked you to point me out, then you might say "the darker guy".

And I wouldn't see why that's supposed to be offensive...
