Hi

I will be moving to Munich in May to a flat in Schwabing and my office will be in the centre, probably near Maximilianstrasse. Are ther any gyms near either of these locations that someone could recommend?

There's an Elixia Sports Club at Lenbach which is in the area you are looking for.

I joined Leo's (located on Leopoldstrasse, number 15 I believe).

It is rather expensive with the monthly membership running at €80 euros. Plus, there are no water fountains and only a pay to use towel service.

Coming from New York City, I was shocked. For $40 a month you could get an impressive gym with tons of free weights, machines and cardi equipment (not to mention complimentary towel service and water fountians). The equpiment at Leo's is decent at best. There is no swimming pool or indoor track either. It is supposedly a ritzy gym, so when you actually sweat and work out, people tend to notice. Who cares- for $80/month I should be there 24 hours a day.

A colleague belongs to Elixia and has mentioned it to be a superior gym to Leo's, at about € 50/month.

Hope this was helpful.

Nautilus Fitness at the corner of Frankfurter Ring and Leopoldstrasse. As nice as Elixia, no free weights, no knuckledraggers, nice sauna but only between 20€ and 29€ a month (depending on how long you sign up for).

There is an Elixia on the U-Bahn station Alte Heide , which is the stop before Studentenstadt .

There's a fitness company at schwabing conveniently located across from the mcdonald's at the Münchner Freiheit ubahn stop.

I go to the one at M-Platz and it's €79 a month for an annual pass there. The one at M-Freiheit should be cheaper as the people who go to the M-platz one can go to any of the other Fitness Company locations, but the other ones cannot go to the M-Platz one.

hi there,

I live on Adalbert strasse, near Universitate. i've been looking for a gym/fitness nearby. i know you are thinking about Loe now, it's too expensive for me ;-( plus i dont need sauna and all the luxuries...just a place to work out.

if any one can suggest a better option, so nice of you !

cheers,

Hello! I also just moved to Munich and would like to find a gym for under 50 euros a month. I am hoping to find a gym that also has a lap pool. If this isn't possible, perhaps someone knows a place just for lap swimming? I live off Stiglmaierplatz and go to school off of Josephplatz do anything in the Maxvorstadt and Schwabing-West area would be ideal. Thanks!

you could try McFit out at Laim - its a bit of a schlep but at €16 per month who minds the cycle ride?

EDIT: kind of weird that I was the OP of this thread a good 5 months before I even moved to Munich

Is it possible to visit fitness centers only from time to time without paying the month?
How much for a single session with sauna? without?

Hey,

I joined the Elixia at the Alte Heide U-Bahn stop, also conveniently located next to an ALDI.

I managed to get a deal, where for 3 months, I pay roughly 80 euros and for that you get:

Very large gym, good free weights
Pool
Access to all classes
Spa area
Electronic lockers
Protein shakes

And basically anything else you'd expect from a gym.

I'd highly recommend it!

Hi Ross,
I was just at the same gym you were at today --Elixia Englischer Garten at Alte Heide Ubahn stop today working out and was told it was just bought out by Body and Soul AG. The staff couldn't even sell me a month pass because they had no idea what was happening with memberships.I was there in the afternoon so they just gave me a guest pass because they have no idea what's happening tomorrow.
How did you actually sign a contract? Does it say it is with Body and Soul AG or with Elixia? I hope they honor your contract.
