They say things happen in threes, coincidence?

Farrah Fawcett, Michael Jackson, Karl Malden

Ozged
They say these things always happen in 3's. So Farrah Fawcett, Micheal Jackson and ... Who will complete the trifecta this time?
BadDoggie
With any luck... you.

Apparently you don't think Ed McMahon is worthy of being part of this "trifecta". Idiot numerlogists...

woof.
HerrDinksbumps
Tyson.

Who? To be an icon people have to of heard of you!
BadDoggie
You know, if you're going to talk about shit on an American-based thread you really ought to know a little bit about America and the local celebrities. Even Canadians know who Ed McMahon was. The man was a staple of two generations of late-night TV.

woof.

You mean Canadians who were unfortunate enough to be hooked up to American cable. I'm so glad we weren't when I was growing up.

Why is this thread an Ami one? The OP claims to be from OZ. The title or original content doesn't refer to Ami land either.

Time to readjust your tin hat me thinks.
Allershausen
Why? The thread was started by an Australian, it's not an American based thread, Jacko and Farrah were world famous, this old bloke wasn't. Being famous in America doesn't make you world famous.
PezMom3
Ed McMahon was one of the first people I remember watching on TV. We've always waited in vain for him to arrive at our front door with that fat Publishing Clearinghouse check.

Spooky how things happen in 3s...
Buffy
David Hasslehof?

Madonna?

Mr T?
Owain Glyndwr
Patrick Swayze.

no, wait, that would mean...

oh no!
hermannyorks
Been a pedant but aren't the Hoff, Madge, Mr T and Swayze all eighties icons?
Owain Glyndwr
yes, you are right, no t pedantic.
Buffy
Hmmm, but I was born in the late 70s and these are the oldest icons I could think of!

Alright then, Joan Collins?
lilplatinum
The kiddy fiddler was more of an 80s icon anyway.

Ed is/was so famous that the seen in The Shining (heeeerrrrrre's Johnny) was totally inspired by him and what made it so freaking funny!

Not content with pretty much everything else in the world the Americans have now claimed death as a U.S. institution.

"The kiddy fiddler was more of an 80s icon anyway."

I actually prefer him from the 70's...so he can go either way - pedantic??
lilplatinum
But he is not a 70s Icon, his solo stupid career started in 79 and thriller became iconic of the early mtv 80s generation.
leeza
He IS a 70s icon, little Michael enraptured millions with that golden voice and smile.

Since little Michael is my favorite version of him, that's the one I choose to remember, and that is clearly 70s.

Edit: I mean, LOOK at the clothes!

Bell the cat
who could be next from this list of big seventies stars?

Paul Michael Glaser (Starsky in Starsky and Hutch)?

Mary Tyler Moore? (Mary Tyler Moore show)

Donna Summer (disco scion)?
RainKing
David Cassidy and all other members of the Partridge family would be a good start.

Anybody seen Jimmie Walker recently?
NycLabrets
David Carradine died earlier this month and one couldn't get any bigger than he was in the 1970s, save for Fonzie and Vinnie Barbarino.
eurovol
Grasshopper would certainly qualify in the trifecta. RIP all of them!
DanHessen
Karl Malden, dead at 97
lazybum

At one point "Mrs SlocombesPussy" overtook Michael Jackson and Iran elections as the most used Twitter phrase,
