Desirable cities to live in the Bodensee area

Advice on choosing which town to move to

Nancymoo
My husband and I are thinking about moving to the Bodensee area and I am wondering if anyone has a recommendation of a particular city. I am American (Californian) and my husband is German. I am somewhat hesitant to move to an area where I might feel isolated. My German is ok, but not enough to carry on a meaningful conversation. I would love to hear your thoughts about what life is like in the Bodensee area, where to live, etc.

We are Amis living in Radofzell, we had spent two winters in Konstanz but could not find accomadations for one year in Konstanz. We have spent quite a bit of time in the area and found Konstanz relatively expensive and the outlying towns not so. We are only 10-15 minutes from Konstanz when we want to go but Konstanz is often completely packed with tourists...except in winter. Our kids are all in school in Radolfzell and seem to be accomodated quite nicely, they all speak German and seem to be adjusting well. I do think that the social situation might have been different in Konstanz. Everything is so close and convenient the public transit is so fantanstic Bus,Bahn,Bikes...there is so much to see and we really love Switzerland. Feel free to ask any questions you need. Germany is beautiful, clean and still cheap for Americans..good luck dpc
