Info on ones that teach in English

Is anyone aware of driving schools in Trier / Konz area that can teach someone to ride a motorcycle?

I've seen similar posts for Koblenz, but as you can gather, this is rather far away.

Any info would be greatfully received.

hey newskies...
I see them around trier all the time. Look in the phone book, I guess. Couldnt tell ya the names right now!

Let me know when you start...I'll be sure to stay off the road!! hehehehe...

I've seen plenty, but I'm looking for ones that teach in English. Know of any?

Well, seeing as there is a huge American Military presence in the Trier area, I'm sure there are many Driving schools that have English classes.
You just have to get out there and look/search.

I'm coming from Paderborn, which has a massive British military presence and you'd be surprised that I can't find anyone who does it in English for motorcycles. However I'll continue my quest to find one. Thanks.

Since Bitburg AFB closed over 10 years ago, Spangdahlem and Baumholder are probably the nearest US bases. There isn't really a big US military presence around Trier any more, in fact, even the French are closing their last base. The remaining US military aren't in around sufficient numbers to justify driving schools providing English courses, in fact, English speaking facilities in general are a bit thin on the ground.
The OP might get lucky and find a school with an English speaking instructor though. I haven't any experience with driving schools in the area, but the firm of Echternach's cars seem to be the one of the most common, so I'd seek them out first and ask if anyone speaks English.

Funny, how just 1yr ago my English speaking Military friends were able to find a Driving School that teaches in English in Trier..
US Military people still need to take the German training courses for motorcycle licenses (Yes the USAREUR class), and because of this
some schools have classes in English. Again, they are there, you just have to look/call around..

Not really, I'd expect their Vehicle Licence office on whatever base they were from was able to point them in the right direction.
However, that doesn't help the OP and doesn't change the fact that there is not a big range of easily accessible English-speaking services in the area waiting to service a "huge" US military community.
I'd hazard a guess that the OP probably knows they could pick up a phone book and start going through the list- it doesn't unreasonable to post a request for information on a forum like this first.

You don't need a "Big Range", you only need one school. Be it one with a classroom of 10 seats or one with 50. They both do the same thing.
The OP is going to have to do their own research on whats avail. If they really wanted to they could lookup the phone # of the DL office on
Spangdahlem and ask them where they send people. You don't have to be in the military to ask/get answers to that question..

Just to prove a point here are some Driving schools in Trier that teach in English. Amazing what a 15 second Google search can find..

Fahrschule Sauer & Müller - Roonstraße 1 - 54292 Trier
Fahrschule Daubenfeld - Porta-Nigra-Platz 5 - 54292 Trier- Tel. 0651/25758
Fahrschule Haas in Trier - Kaiserstr. 3a - 54290 - Trier - 0651/72125

And if for some reason they can't help you, I'm sure they will know of some others schools that can.
GerryM
Darknight, I don't know what your problem is.
I replied to your original post which implies that there were many driving schools teaching in English to support a huge US military presence and that the OP would have no problem finding one.
None of that is true.
Why did you bother responding if your first suggestion was basically to tell the OP to go look for himself?

So I can't change my mind and provide some helpful info..

When I got my german DL...the course was in German with about 12 students but the final test was in English (my choice).
Even though I did not (at the time) understand everything that was said in the class, I could figure out the lesson by looking at the book "pictures" and using common sense...and aced the final exam! You need, though, at least a basic knowledge of German and you will do fine...

Also, there is NOT a HUGE military presence in Trier. We get some GI's from spangelheim?, some from the Bit area and some from birkenfield but other than that...if you want to speak englsh in trier go to O'Reily's pub...brits, some GI's and the workers speak english. MAYBE they know where an english speaking school is???
Darkknight
I'm sorry, then.. I guess the 5k+ Active Duty members and the 10-15k accompanying dependants/family members don't constitute a "Large presence"
in you mind.
GerryM
Darkknight. that's now 2 Trier residents that have told you there isn't a large military presence. Maybe you're talking about a different Trier?
Or maybe you just haven't been there recently? I notice a difference if I go 30 km up the road. You get noticeably more Americans nearer Spangdahlem or Bitburg, but even there not so many since BIT AFB closed. SP has also just announced further cuts. Most of the British, or Irish, accents you hear are day trippers from Luxembourg, the majority of which work in the financial services industry. A small number (of the British anyway) might be military on secondment to NAMSA in Lux, but in that case you're talking about dozens, rather than even hundreds, never mind thousands.
Regardless, your original advice that there are large numbers of English-speaking driving schools to serve a large military community is not correct and would have misled the OP. There aren't large numbers of English speaking anythings here.
At the risk of being accused of flouncing , I dont see much point of trying to enlighten you any further. The OP got his answer, you got your misconception corrected, whether you acccept it or not is up to you.
Have splendid day.
Darkknight
So they are 2 Trier residents.. Are they Military? Do they know the details of the numbers of Military Members and Their families
that are in the area? The USAF in general has been announcing cuts for years. But those cuts are mainly in the recruiting intake,
not those that are already in.. Seeing as I do make it to the Trier/Spang area every 6-8 months and have half a dozen or so friends
there (Some military, some not) I think I do know what I am talking about. Perhaps it is you and the other Trier posters that need
to get out more.
