Life in Kaiserslautern for single people

Would it be boring for a single under-30 male?

spacemanspiff
Hi everyone, new member. I am considering moving to Ktown from a big city in the
US to experience European culture and all that good stuff. as a contractor btw.

I was curious what ktown was like for a single under-30 male? Is it terribly
boring as it seem like there are ALOT of families in the area?
I realize it will not be anything like living in a big US City but I am hoping
that I will not have to leave ktown constantly so I am not bored while looking
for activities/ nightlife.

Anyone have any advice for me?
thanks
kato
Not much "European culture" to be had in the K-Town area really. One fourth of the quarter million people living in the region are US citizens.

Is it terribly boring
Any place could be - depends what you make of it.

Anyone have any advice for me?
Only to repeat what is so often written here - get out & about. Join in some (German) activity. Sports, Hobby. I did (joined a gliding club & learnt to fly - as by-product learnt the lingo & made many friends).

I am just curious about the town itself, I hope i dont hate it.

i will be getting plenty of European culture throughout the rest of germany ,and ahem, Europe so that is not a concern.

It's not bad at all. Plenty of bars, one of the best döner shops I've ever been to, and if you're into football, FCK has a huge following and game days are always a big party. There are also other spots with decent nightlife (but catering to the military, mostly) not too far away that nobody's really ever heard of (like Neunkirchen).

yes. but you sound like you have a military background so you'll probably find lots of u.s. military contacts (mostly americans). but on the wknds, you'll be out traveling anyway. i'd suggest moving to mannheim, but then you'd have to commute and although the commute won't be long, traffic sucks.

Hey Elf,

i'm currently doing the commute from K-town to Mannheim and it's not as bad as I thought... like you said though.. the stau's are JFPIWEJFPOIWJEF hah

Take the train! Door-to-door in an hour (well, if your doors are Hbfs), never traffic, 67 EUR a month. Can't beat that.

Hey bohemka, nice to see you are back!!!

by the way he is talking about the Rhine Neckar ticket... you get it for 67 € per month if you buy it for a whole year.

I lived there as a single lady for 3 years and had a blast. I travelled on the weekend (before my first baby) when I could. The weekends were pretty busy and fun-you just need to know where to go. Like anywhere else, you'll start to see the same ol people, so go to Mannheim and other surrounding cities for a change of scenary. Good luck!

Thanks, angelbeast. Good to be back, though I have another dentist appointment with the auslaenderbehoerde tonight. Great trip.

True about it being an annual pass. Important info that I somehow omitted. Hopefully I'm back to work on Monday and we'll have another beer garden session soon. Check the drinks in mannheim/Heidelberg thread. I think there's a plan to meet next Thursday or Friday.

I am living in Mannheim and commuting to Kaiserlautern. It takes me 50 min door to door and costs me about 12.50 euros a day in gas alone. I am looking into the best way to take the train as I am living near the HBF in Mannheim. As for nightlife in Kaiserlautern, I haven't spent much time there after work but from what I have observed it won't be similar to a US city at all. If someone knows of a good place to go out and mingle I'd love to hear as well. I am not single, but I am a social person who is starting to feel a bit bored here.
