Hi all,

There is a fest at Maulbronn monastery, which according to local legend is where Maultaschen comes from. The fest takes place on the 27th and 28th of June. From the pictures here it looks like they do it medieval style with the appropriate clothes, crafts and dances. Here is a plan of events. I think it will be fun, if a little hokey. Hopefully they will have some authentic Maultaschen for us.

Tickets for the fest are 2.50 a person. Events go until 10 pm on Sunday. On Sunday, June 28th let's meet at Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof by track 11 at 12:00. The train leaves at 12:19 on track 11 and gets us to the monastery at 13:22. We can buy Baden-Wuerttemberg tickets which would be 28 Euros for every 5 people. For coming back home there is a train/bus once an hour and it will take about an hour and 15 minutes to get back to Hauptbahnhof.

I'll start a list so we can see if we have multiples of 5, I'll confirm closer to fest weekend.

me me me!!!
what could be better than yet another crazy food related german fest?

Cool, dudes! We agree that Maultaschen + medieval shiz makes for an enticing combination.
We'd like to come. If necessary (awkward number of people) one or both of us can buy individual tickets because we have BahnCards (50% off regular tickets).

Maulbronn is famous for its "11-finger wine".

the story goes that wine was in one large container on a column, which dripped down into a little place where they could only dip their fingers for a small taste. One monk said ruefully, “If only I had eleven fingers instead of ten,” hence the name of the wine from the vineyards here is “Elf,“ meaning 11 fingers.
Oh and "Maultaschen" are also known as "Gottesbescheisserle" - Meaning you can cheat on God by hiding your meat in the Maultaschen on days that you should be fasting.

Anyone interested in going there from Karlsruhe?

Hi, guys, turns out Keith has a work-related event on Sunday afternoon that we didn't find out about until last week, so although we'd still like to go to Maulbronn and meet up with all of you, we'll be getting there earlier and then leaving earlier. That means we'll also be buying our own individual train tickets, so please don't factor us into the group ticket.

Once y'all get to Maulbronn, please call or text us and we can figure out where to meet.

so if Jinks + 1 can't make it and lolawonka + 1 is tentative that make 5 people for a €28 BW ticket, richtig?
any other takers?? if lolawonka + 1 come then we can split the price of 1 ticket by 3 and 1 ticket by 4
mmmmmmmm caaaarbs

I was just about to do the count, woo. We have some takers who didn't RSVP on the thread, so the the count is 9 positives with a tentative plus one. As woo said, anyone else care to join?

Hey guys my wife and I are looking for something to do. How far is it from Karlsruhe and what is the age range of the group already going? We would be driving so anyone wanting a lift on our way is welcome...(we get free gas so it isn't a problem)
woo
9 positives for the ticket? bugger, did i miscalculate?

@ Hands: i would say the ages ranged from 20-40 ish. how nice of you to offer, i'm sure we're all polite to take you up on the offer (or get totally over-excited about train travel!)

but feel free to PM me if you need a contact number to meet up there
