NEWSFLASH: because there have been recent problems with the way we notify people of this event, we are hoping to move it to being an emailing list. You can now sign up to the mailing list for the event through our dedicated website here:

The next one will take place on July 3rd from 7pm
This gay/lesbian stammtisch has been running since August 2008. We are now regularly getting between 30-50people each month on the first Friday of the month. Some of our regulars have been living in Munich for years but others are newbies to the city, the language and the whole expat thing and it can be a great way to meet and make friends with other people in the same boat.
These immensely popular Stammtisches have been held on the first Friday of every month at a variety of venues around Munich but for the summer months of 2009 we will be at the Gasthaus Alte Messe, which is the biergarten immediately behind the Bavaria monument that stands over the Wiesn. Behind the monument is a road called Theresienhöhe and the Augustiner sign indicates the entrance just a little further on. The venue is indoors and outdoors so we will be there rain or shine.
The tables will be booked in the name of "English" but it shouldn't be too hard to spot with a bunch of international flags (and a couple of small rainbow ones) sitting on the main table.
The Stammtisch is intended for Lesbian, Bisexual, Gay and Transgendered English-speaking people living in or visiting Munich, and their friends, but straight people are welcome as long as they respect the ethos.

Six people have signed up so far. By my calculations there are about 70 people in Munich that have been to this event more than once though so I would hope that we get a lot more signing on for the email list through:

hopefully the weather holds to this evening as I am really looking forward to the Stammtisch. If not, the bierhall inside is very comfortable and we have the option of being in or out, as it were.

You are kidding yourself if you think some of this group has the option about whether to go in or to stay "out" See you tonight!

blast this stupid rain. I called the Alte Messe and they recommend moving us inside (!). Peter and I will be tehre with the flags and hope to see lots of you. Praying that the rain stops and we can sit outside nonetheless.

okay, I am not a designer and do not have any access to design software but I made an attempt at a logo button for the stammtish. Let me know what you think or, better still, take it away and improve it:

pleaqse ignore the pile of crap I cobbled together above, we now have a new professionally designed logo for the Munich event (thanks ian!):
thinking of getting some beermat flyers made with it for CSD - what do you think?

after watching CSD yesterday I have been wondering about rebranding our Stammtisch as an "International" rather than "English" Stammtisch. We use "English" because that is the language spoken at the drinks but we get people from many non-English speaking nations (eg Germany, Iceland, Peru, France, Spain, Portugal, Romania, Israel, China, Japan). It strikes me that the internationalness of the stamtisch is actually a selling point that is stronger than "English". What do the rest of you think?
Also, I've been impressed with the branding of the Berlin event: "Queer beer" and wondered whether we could think of some headline name. Can't think of any myself but maybe some of you could come up with suggestions?
