So,
who's up for skiing this weekend? Owain will be in Scotland, but I know Jeeves, I, and I think Gideon have already expressed interest.
Anyone else? Please mention if you have a car, as we don't have Owain's this week and mine is still dead!
(We can always take the bus from Isartor)
JB
So reply:
- no, can't come
- yes, saturday, have /don't have car
- yes, both days, have /don't have car
- yes, sunday, have /don't have car

I know you said "Ski" ing, is that a general term to include snowboarding as well?
Or is it strictly skiers only?
I would go an saturday or sunday whichever is best for everyone but I dont have a car either!
Jeeves
Mar 7 2005, 4:20 pm
- yes, both days, have car

And add DW to the list of wanting to come and no car.

Yeah, though I'd prefer Sunday only (cuz Starkbier is on Saturday and what the hell else is tehre to do on Sunday?). Not pickie though.

Starkbierfest is a good idea before a day on the slopes??
I'd think I was still on the piss nevermind the piste!!

Broke one of my three basic rules of skiing yesterday(never ski with a hangover) and ended up with a bum thumb that will probably need surgery
Don't ski with a hangover or your likely to get injured. I've done it twice in 30 years of skiing and been injured twice doing it.

Definitly-interested-but-not-quite-committing-yet for Sunday...
I have a battered estate car with roofrack which should be able to manage me + 4 + skis.
Caveat: I'm a bloody awful skiier and at best I'll be quivering down blues.

Mar 7 2005, 5:17 pm
Oooh, lots of interest, wow.
OK, I forgot to add
"if have car, please state how many seats free"so far Jeeves has a car with 1 seat taken
*ahem! organiser's rights, bugger democracy*
Er, just noticed the mods have changed the thread name... it's not a skiing weekend! it's "skiing this weekend", just as i said when I wrote it

Mar 7 2005, 5:32 pm
sunday i have me/oscar yeah he's back! and maybe mother in law. DONT FUCKING ASK.
i also volenteer to go somewhere else as you guys. I would have one seat free in the car, but i dont hate anyone enough to sit them in it with my MIL.
JoolyBooly
Mar 7 2005, 5:34 pm
that's OK... you have a Volvo Estate... I'me sure she'll fit in the BOOT.
Jeeves
Mar 7 2005, 7:07 pm
Due to organiser's rights my car has one free seat left.
Gids: MIL but not wifey? Oops sorry, you did say don't ask.

Mar 7 2005, 7:10 pm
So whats the score for me? no one has answered the snowboard question?
And is it possible for me to have a seat in a car reserved?
Thanks,
Paul
Jeeves
Mar 7 2005, 7:15 pm
Scotsman: The snowboard question isn't a real question. Of course you'll be welcome. I haven't been skiing with TT yet when there hasn't been at least one boarder present.
As for the car seat, well it depends how it's being organised. Experience tells that it's best just to leave the organising to one person, otherwise it gets surprisingly complicated. But the way I see it, you're second on the list behind 3 Lions.

OK, sorry, not on line much at the mo...
Let's fix it.
SUNDAY. Meet Innsbrucker Ring U-Bahn at 6.45am SHARP.Cars so far:
Jeeves + Scotsman + JB = full
Gideon + chocolate monster + MIL + 3 Lions = full
The rest of you: either wait until someone offers a lift, or if they haven't by tomorrow evening Owain has offered his car. But then I'll have to sort out who can drive it, and it will have to be cleaned afterwards as he's giving it back to the leasing company on Tuesday.
EDIT:
people needing lifts:
DrivinWest
BostonSportsFan
Canuck (maybe)
Possible driver: benpanter
Suggest carless people cajole Benpanter into coming
over and out

talk to the hand (i.e. Gideon)

Which reminds me, I haven't actually arranged a place to go. Suggest wherever Owain and Fly Guy went last time, apparently it rocked *goes off to ask*

Zillertal. near Mayrhofen. Horbergbahn to the top.
Loads of fresh powder, some exciting black runs (one is supposed to be the steepest prepared black in all of Austria), and loads of opportunities to go "off-piste". The on-piste runs were not smoothed down, so made ordinary skiing more challenging for the intermediates. The weather meant the pistes were also fairly empty, absolutely no waiting at lifts (and the chip-cards help as well).
Drive was good: just over 1 1/2 hours. You need a "Pickerl" though.

I am picking up a mate from Salzburg on Friday morning and we are gonna do the Zell am See area until Sunday evening if anyone else is also kicking around? Both on boards.
JoolyBooly
Mar 8 2005, 2:51 pm
that's ok, the cars are full so €7 between 3-4 is no biggy. (for all newbies, a Pickerl is a Maut thingy, the tax sticker you need past Kufstein Süd)
Jeeves
Mar 8 2005, 2:55 pm
JE: I've done Kaprun for a day before and it's a hell of a drive just for the one day, so I for one doubt that I'll be driving there...
JB: So who volunteers to get the bloody thing unstuck from my windscreen afterwards? That's more of a hassle than the 7 yoyos
JoolyBooly
Mar 8 2005, 4:05 pm
ok, so Johnny_E is skiing for the whole weekend, you misunderstood
and it's easy, you smear some washing up liquid on it before sticking it. An old Austrian local trick, they buy one annual pass for the whole family and just switch it between cars...

For a day I just stick it in the side and wave it at them if I get controlled, I refuse to wreck my screen or bother with it all
check
this out, my mate Mannie last weekend in Banff... wish she were here!
Jeeves
Mar 8 2005, 4:07 pm
JB: No I didn't misunderstand. What he said was perfectly clear. What I said (what I think I said) was that I would not be joining him for just a day.

Mar 8 2005, 4:38 pm
mr. lions you will as usual be picked up from your house.
i have a two month pickerl so im smiling.
mother in law sits in the back and pisses off oscar. you and me talk about football rugby and cricket for one and a half hours (PLEASE).
is the journey time driving fast or normal 160 kmh?
as usual my car takes 8 pairs of skis or two snowboards (if one of them has step ins) and four skis otherwise, well do the maths ...
why dont we just go to ellmau btw. the snow id tip top there?
Jeeves
Mar 8 2005, 4:40 pm
Gideon: if we put all the skis and boards in your car then I can get an extra bod into mine if necessary. If that's okay with the organiseress too.
And did you ever find your hat?
Edit: Ellmau is fine with me. The extra half an hour to get to Zillertal may not sound like much, but multiply it by two and that's enough driving for one day for me.
gideon
Mar 8 2005, 4:46 pm
the organiser is jb and she does as shes told. what you want to come out of the kitchen? lass get yourself back in there and cook dinner. i agree a little on the long driving stuff.
yep my car will be the camel again so i'll get your skis on mine.
and i actualy put my hat in the wash
not in the corner on the floor. must have been a moment of madness.

OK so DrivinWest gets a lift in Jeeves' car as skis going on Gideon's roof
And we're all going on a...trip to Ellmau...(sing along now)

weather was bad going so no fast driving. I think we averaged about 120 on the Autobahn and the usual 70-80 on the Landstrasse. we left my place (about 8 minute drive from Innbruckerring) just after 6:35 and arrived at the lift at about 8:15 if memory serves.
coming back may have been slower cos of Stau but i can't remember cos i was tanked up.

yes, hmm, that would help! He PM'd me saying "don't leace without me this time"... when he hasn't even confirmed he's coming, and I wasn't driving last time!
Which reminds me:
can everyone please PM me their Handy numbers, and leave your phones on! Canuck missed the U-Bahn last time and his phone was dead, so when he didn't answer we figured he'd overslept... and left without him

OK, I've reviewed my life plans, checked up on the overdraft situation and pondered the condition of my car. I'm in... but as long as there are going to be some similarlly terrible skiiers in the group to keep me company as I stagger around looking worried!
I'm based in Garching, so if there are any folks who would rather be picked up in, say,
Schwabing or any other Northerly U6 station that would be great -- I'm not a fan of trying to navigate through Munich on my own.

Mar 9 2005, 2:46 pm
OK so Benpanter is skiing on friday with non-TT, his car is free for us on Sunday.
So Canuck, drivinwest and anyone else who'd prefer to meet "up north" than at Innsbrucker Ring should post here and PM him for a meet up.
JoolyBooly
Mar 10 2005, 3:01 pm
OK, so I hope this is all organised?
BenPanter has my phone number if not.
All I know is, i'm meeting Jeeves and Scotsman at Innsbrucker Ring at 6.45am on Sunday.
I'm at Cebit from 5am until 11pm tomorrow so won't be on-line after about 5 this evening.
So if you're stuck, please PM BenPanter! He still (in theory) has spaces.
See you Sunday

Mar 10 2005, 3:09 pm
So... confirmed in my car is only DW so far... anyone else wants a lift then send me a PM asap. I'm away tomorrow and then I'll be online Saturday (I won't be at starkbierfest - overindulged lastnight)

If you're arriving on the U from the centre of town then leave by one of the exits on the left-hand side in the direction of travel. There are car-parking spaces on the road (can't remember the name) that runs above the underground line (not the Ring itself) and we'll meet there. There shouldn't be too many people standing around there at that time, but we might not be the only ones. My car is a green Mazda, Gideon's (for the skis/board) is a dark Volvo estate.
