Hello All!
So, I'm a 20 year old American, and as of August 17, I'll become an Au-Pair in the village of Bruttig-Fankel! Before I get there, I was hoping to connect with some other English speakers in the area and find out what RLP has to offer! The more I research it, I find that it's a pretty rural area, at least compared to where I live now, which has me a little worried! Does anyone know of a German language class being offered in this area, maybe in Cochem, or a neighboring town? Thanks in advance for any info!
-Daniel!

Hello Daniel, they do courses in Cochem. When they start, i am not sure. They run for around 6 months. It is advertised in the local paper, so i will keep an eye out and let you know. Bruttig is quite rural and the whole place runs like most holiday areas. The season starts in April-May and finishes in September. After that take up knitting or some other hobby. Koblenz is not too far away and has around 100,000 inhabitants and is quite lively. It is around 60 mins by train from Cochem. If you have any more questions , let me know as i only live down the road. All the best for now.

To anyone interested, basic German courses start at the Kreisvolkshochschule in Cochem on 07.09.09 between 1900-2030 and cost 45 euros. If you need to have a look the e-mail address is
www.kvhs-cochem-zell.de
The person you need to contact is Hans Albrecht. The college is in the middle of Cochem and just over the road from the main bus terminal. All the details are in the local paper which comes around every week. (cochem-zell aktuell, nachrichten der kreisverwaltung)

Once again, really helpful, useful information - thanks. I've taken a look at the website and found the programme. As we arrive on 1 Sept, it's well-timed. Before I try to book us on it, can you tell me Bergadler, we'll be in Rachtig, is the Cochem programme likely to be the closest one for us? If so, any idea how to book? I can't tell from the website. Many thanks.

Hello Spirit,
nice to see things are moving along. I think your wife was in our local cake shop this week having a coffee before seeing the notary. Anyway, the website will only give details of the Cochem-Zell region. As to further down river, not sure . I will see what i can find out. Rachting is 42kms from Cochem as you probably know. Along the river, that is around 60-70 minutes. However if you drive to Ürzig which is 6kms, jump on the train, Cochem is 20 mins. I think that is maybe your best option unless I can find a school nearer.
Always keep an eye on the railway lines in and around the area because it can take ages by car as the roads often follow the river which snakes and bends. The train tends to cut off large chunks of the route. For example if i drive to cochem, it takes 20mins, the train does it in 4 minutes, straight through the hills.
Hope this helps, and if you want anything else let me know. Perhaps we can have a beer or three when you arrive. All the best for now.

Hello KatieAllyn, sent Daniel a pm some time ago but have had no response. If anyone finds a lost American with a ticket for Bruttig-fankel, please send them in the Mosel direction. If you need any help KatieAllyn, give me a shout, all the best for now. BG
