Hi,
the rather beautiful brand-spanking new Kunstmuseum Stuttgart opens on Saturday and is an utter treat for lovers of art or indeed architecture.
The building and name are new, the concept is not - this is the old Stuttgart City Art Collection which used to be hidden in a tiny building in the centre of Stuttgart.
The new building is on the previously under-used Kleinen Schlossplatz.
The collection ranges from pieces by Adolf Hölzel, Willi Baumeister or Dieter Roth, with the biggest single collection of Otto Dix' items, to more modern pieces and installation art.
The building itself is also a treat.
Built by the Berlin architect team of Hascher and Jehle the glass cube is a beautiful contrast to the Kleinen Schlossplatz (which itself was rebuilt after WWII bombing) as is like a sculpture in light.
A lot of the works are actually on show below ground, meaning that the underground road network in the city centre also shows a view of the museum.
So if you are off to Habitat anyway (which is about 5-10min walking distance away), certainly worth a look.
