In that article it states "In this area, they saw an orange buoy, an airplane seat, small white pieces, an airplane turbine as well as oil and kerosene" -- an airplane turbine? I wonder how that managed to float!

Maybe attached to something with an air pocket trapped inside?

I wonder if there's any chance there may be some survivors after all, clinging to bits of wreckage?
funf
@Tea, ocean water is so cold, that you aren't going to survive unless you are out of the water. Sadly, I don't think they will find any survivors.

Thunderstorms pose many other risks to planes though.
My flight out of Dallas/FW was delayed today due to thunderstorms/ lightning... I survived the flight, only to whack myself on the temple on the overhead baggage compartment and have the MD on board insist to the airline that paramedics be called. I refused, and am now enjoying Zinfandel to make the headache go away.

Every time I fly I always feel I am pushing my luck.

Then don't fly...despite flying being constantly proven to be the safest mode of transport.

Not true - the safest form of transport is actually the elevator...

Sorry to hear that llees and Ems. Someone I studied with in Munich was on the flight, I heard last night. Absolutely gutted for her family and bf. And there was me moaning about my holiday request being declined from work? Jesus.

I think Mr Keydeck will dissagree with you there!
Hazza
Elevator, not escalator.

Escalators are rather more dangerous, because as Mr Keydeck discovered, you can fall down them...

All we need now is THAT photo.

You mean the one that looks like he's been smashed in the face with a guitar?

I thought he was wearing make up?

Crossing the ITC (Intertropical Convergence Zone ) it s a given you re gonna experience severe thunderstorms.

No way to climb toc ( top of clouds) due to extreme height of thunderclouds ( abt 45000 to 50000 ft )

So you re gonna look for a gap between Cumulonimbus . thats the only way!

I ve been in the air for almost 30 years , so i experinced many Thunderstorms , but there was one giving me the biggest wake up call ever :

Approaching AMS there was a single (small) CB like cloud on the ILS course .

Nothing to worry about

Out of the blue , we were hit by lightning causing severe damage of nose dome / weather radar.

My Co_pilot was blinded by the light , unfit for duty for the following 3 days!

Flying is for the birds

Flying is for the birds
Didn't that flight have a female co-pilot?
