is there somewhere i could go at the end of my year here and do a test or something that would determine my competence in the language and could put this on a CV/resume?

Is there some sort of place that does general sort of classifications?

do you know what im talking about im getting quite tired and this isnt making much sense to me either...

I think the volkshochschule gives you a placement test before you can take a class there (not a proper test but sort of an assesment). The most official tthing I can think would probably be offered by the Goether Institute, see what they offer.

cool thanks will look into that.

Hi bonstein, sounds like you are almost asking for permission which is not necessary wink.gif
What kind of help do you need to decipher the German language? Are you looking for schools or placement tests or something else? If you are a bit more clear then you will get enough help and suggestions from many people here. Good luck and welcome to TT smile.gif

@ Schotte, no idea how good your German is, but maybe you could have a bash at the Kleines Deutsches Sprachdiplom from the Goethe Institut.
It's not easy, by all accounts. You have to sit a 5-hour written exam, plus oral tests.
A friend of mine did the Grosses Diplom, and apparently it's tough to get through without going to one of the courses they offer as Vorbereitung (which are quite pricey).
I would pop down to the Goethe Institut and have a chat with them.
