Learning and practising from home

As well as taking courses and talking to people, there are also various useful online tools for learning German. Most people are probably already familiar with Babelfish and equivilents (eg freetranslation.com, as well as the Leo English/German Dictionary , but there are also various websites which provide useful links and exercises, such as:

www.cas.usf.edu / german

And:

www.wuziegames.com / learngerman

If anyone has any particularly useful sites they can recommend, please share them!

One of the German Universities has a program that you can download for free. I tried it a few years back and it would have been great for the beginner, but I had already lived here for like four years. If you search for it, I am sure you could find it. I might later if I have time.

they also give you the news every day in slowly read german

It is PAINFULLY slow though. Don't know about anyone else, but if somebody says I word I don't know, then I don't know it - repeating it slowly never really helps much...my uncle still tries that very technique every year on holiday though. Plum.

Hi there!!

Try this http://german.about.com. I found it quite helpful.

This website won't teach you German, but it does have lots of exercies for practicing different things like adjectives and what not. I only know about it because in my class we use the "Schritte" books and they have the website on the back cover.

I've used the Rosetta Stone online program. It's about 30 US a month, but totally worth it. Breaks things down grade school style for the slow learners like me.
