Hi all,

I am applying for my german passport and need to get through the german langauage test, i have been given the book title that i need to use, but would be good to get some opinions, what level do i need to aspire to. I understand that it involves reading a paragraph and then discussing the paragraph with the burger amt. blink.gif

I believe if you want to avoid that you can submit a certificate of basic proficiency in german . does anyone know what that certificate is , some people think it is middelstuffe1 other think it is probabvly grundstuffe1

anyone had any experiences ?, any ideas, wisecracks etc . anyone who has gone through this experience, would be great to hear from you.

Cheers

I recommend a German one.

Well you did welcome wisecracks!

You need to know more than the language. There is a whole lot you need to learn, including the nation anthem.

WHY would anyone need to learn the German national anthem? Most Germans I know don't know it! And you never hear it at sports events, etc.

I love it when countries require prospective citizens to know more about their new country than its own native citizens do. (I'm sure my own counry does the same thing.)

You hear the German national anthem every time Schumi wins at Formula 1.

For the same reason that if you want to pass the American citizenship test, you have to know which state has a unicameral legislature, something half the Nebraskans don't know.

"Do ya want to be one of us? Do ya really, really want to be one of us? Are you sure? Is it important enough to you that you're willing to learn some stupid shit abuot us that even some of our own don't know?"

Requiring knowledge of the national anthem is a lot less trivial than a lot of the US test questions, and it also lets them know that you know not to sing the original first and second verses of the poem.

woof.

I'd be fucked. I don't even know what unicameral means blink.gif

Here are some easier questions for the US citizen test

Got 9/11...failed on who becomes pres and the number of constitution changes.

That was better, and not a camel to be seen.
