I have a friend who I think is in need of someone neutral to talk too, anyone know the equivalent of the samartitans in Germany?

"Neutral" ? No
Both the Catholic and Protestant churches run crisis lines (seperately), look for Seelsorge in the phone book.
There are also a number of other helplines on:
Drugs and alcohol
Unwanted pregnancy
Sexuality
Domestic violence
Debt
etc etc etc run by various charities and groups.
If you say your friend's problem, maybe someone can point them in the right direction.
Samaritans in Britain and Ireland also offer E mail service too.

Most colleges will offer a student counselling service and if your friend prefers help her to contact another counselling service. They will do in confidence.
Hope your friend feels better soon and I'm glad someone is sensibly looking out for her.

Whats the German word for counselling? Can't find it in my translation tool.
And she is a good egg, just seeing a rough patch like we all do in those stressful student days.

For counselling I'd say Beratung. A counselling service would be Beratungstelle oder Beratungsdienst.

She should contact her local
Studentenwerk (that's the LMU one). Their services are *free*, confidential and not related to religion (unless you ask them to be I'd guess). And no they don't pass on to tutors who uses their services.
Hope your friend finds the help she needs.
