Learning German while also caring for a baby

Thoughts on how to manage this in Hamburg

loopy_lou
Hey
Just wondered if anyone has any advice on learning German when you have a little baby that you can't leave? Has anyone achieved this through a language school (and not paid a huge amount for private tutors!!!) or by any other means?

Or is there anyone out there who is in the same predicament who would like to learn together and maybe we can find a teacher for just us and the babies!!!

Been in Hamburg now for only 4 weeks - so language level is basic!

Yes, there are basic German language classes aimed at muslim immigrant moms of with little ones in tow. I would find out through the Hamburg VHS how to sign up. Also you can search through your local government office, for example, I'm in Eimsbüttel and the downstairs lobby had all sorts of info for foreigners in a German booklet (and usually this info is also in Turkish but never in English) in the lobby. You will find the pace too slow as most attendees have no interest in German language or culture but I would still go if I were you to accomplish something for yourself. Later, if you are still on a budget, you can attend a part-time evening VHS course (better than day clases usually because the students actually tend to want to learn German) if you can find someone to take care of the baby while you are there. I would have even tried bringing mine with me but evenings is when she's most active. I'm starting to put together a list of parents of kids in the area that migh want to help each other out with occasional babysitting so if you want to be adde to my list just PM me.
