Hi, I was planning to go to Dachau for quite sometime. Is anybody else interested in going there this weekend?
Plane Girl
hmmmm i am free sunday? what time are u thinking about going?
32D
Has anyone been there b4 and any suggestions? Would be gr8 if you joins us!
Blimeygirl
There is some useful info about Dachau on this thread (including how to get there) Holocaust Museum.

I have been...can't really tell you how to prepare...it is very sad...a real part of history...something you need to see for yourself. I went on my own and wished I hadn't sad.gif
Showem
Wait wait. Are you talking about visiting Dachau the city or the KZ (concentration camp) near Dachau? Both are worth a visit, but not necessarily on the same day.
Blimeygirl
Yeah good point. Sorry...never thought much to see in Dachau city...normally people who mention it are going to the camp.

If it is the city...can't help you there. Although Tom did buy a nice snowboard out there somewhere cool.gif
32D
Order of preference would be: first the camp. Then if time permits, the city!
Jeeves
I found that both on the same day made a good day trip. The town might be nicer in warmer months though. The concentration camp certainly left its impression on me.

Edit: agree with that, 32D
32D
Sure... First the history. If possible be a part of it!!! HeHEHe ph34r.gif

I made the mistake of using a map not drawn to scale, and rode my bike there. A couple hours later after making may wrong turns, I arrived. I suggest that you take the free English guided tours, as they give you much more information than the guided books.
Jeeves
I decided to walk from the S-Bahn station to the camp. Not only did it seem to take ages it was also boring. Use the bus (if there is one on Sunday!)
Showem
I'm pretty sure the bus still goes on Sunday, just not as often.
papa_geno
Yup. Get a guide, if you can. You'll miss a lot if you don't.
Trig
Ahh i really wanna go here too. But again i think its something i would enjoy more when its a little warmer. So if anyone cant go this sunday then maybe we can organise another trip in a few months time.

Hi,

Right time to see Dachau.. In this weather, one can imagine the fate of thousands of almost naked prisoners, many suffring from malnutrition and over-working, there during winter..

One thing that I always remember about the Dachau camp is the slogan on the gate: "Arbeit macht Frei"..

If I am not mistaken, there is a show (motion picture) at 14:00 or 16:00 in English, taken about the life in the camp..

Regards,
Plane Girl
@ simple great then we should organize it for this sunday!
