Just thought I'd share this with everybody...
National Car Rental (on Einsteinstrasse) has a special daily rate of 28€ (including all taxes and insurance) for a VW Golf. This means if you pick up the car on Friday say at 6:30pm and return it on Sunday 6:30pm you would pay a grand total of 56€ including all taxes and insurance. This is not a corporate price...anybody can call up and reserve a car. This is the best deal I've found in Munich so far.

Do you have to be 25 to hire a car? Will anyone hire to 21 year olds anyone know?

I never used the web site at all. I just called 0800 - 46 47336 which is the main number for Germany and asked to rent a Golf-class car (with summer tires) for the weekend from the Munich downtown station (which is Einsteinstrase). The cheapest rate is 28€ per day (Thursday-Sunday). I'm not sure aboot the minimum age...I'll ask today when I pick up the car.

A quick look at their website seems to indicate that they have minimum age limits only for their luxury cars (27 in some cases!) But there doesn't seem to be any restriction if you want to get an Opel Astra or the like.

The tires are normal all-terrain tires and should be fine unless you're driving up steep icy mountain roads. But you're right...check out the wear on the tires before you take the car, and take it easy on the autobahn. Just common sense...
