A lot of Hamburgers are getting they're pants wet because of a squadron of swiss military jets taking part at the harbour fest.

Pilots might have gone under the permitted flight level and out side of the approved airspace (to close to downtown/Lake Binnen Alster).

You got to hand it to these people, they know how to ruin a good party

Guess we can all drink tea next year and watch boats bobing in the water.

It should be noted that Switzerland is the partnering country at this years festival and they contributed the airshow. What a way to treat a guest for 3 days!

Good shot, mld. We were following them with the binoculars from the balcony just a while ago. Quite spectacular!

Statements / claims like that can be made about anything. You "might" live to 150 years (buts its very unlikely).
Joe Public cannot judge heights (even worse than his ability to judge speeds).

I just find it sad that there are no longer any good airshows around here. Just to see some good stuff again im driving up to the Roskilde Airshow in Denmark this summer.

Ramstein Airshow 1988 ...
Mapleleafdude
I am well aware of the Ramstein accident. Since then safety measures have been taken so that airshows no longer take place over or to near the crowds. Ramstein was a sad incident but should not stand as an excuse to no longer do any at all.

Safety is not an issue in Hamburg because the planes do the show over the (industrial part) of the harbour. In fact Hamburg is more in danger due to commercial air traffic everyday because the airport's location is right in the city and forces almost all airplanes over populated areas for kilometers around.

And it always gets pulled out of the Mottenkiste as soon as the word "airshow" is mentioned in Germany...

Also people[sup]*[/sup] in general are afraid of rare risks (snake bit) compared to high risks (getting run over by a car).

*Usually whipped up by the media esp TV "presenters".
tor
Germans are afraid of a friggin open window too.

I suspect it is the rather well heeled people who live in the area who are turning their noses up.
The Pöbel might hang out around the Alster and eat chips and drink Astra!

People complaining about the noise are probably the same folks who don't want to have the Hamburg Harley days on the Dom Platz or down in the harbor area. Nothing but whinny kill-joys. Start your engines!!!

If you've ever had to wait in your car for 75 minutes waiting for 20,000 motorcycles to pass through an intersection, blocked from any hope of turning around while your 2-year-old kid screams bloody murder in the back seat, you'd curse that stupid Motorrad Gottesdienst for all time. Still do.

I wouldnt want to live anywhere near the harbour tho...the noise, people pissing near your house the roads closed but hey we did have a great time this year...loved the airshow as well, took loads of pictures of the ships and loved all the bands playing everywhere...

I was watching these guys flying over the weekend from my apt. They did look fairly low when they passed over but it's an awesome sight and great sound. Don't know what people are complaining about... wait until the Harleys are in town!

Thought the airshow was amazing- those guys are talented and brave!

As for Harleyfest- yep we got stuck for over 40mins on a crossroad last year, but hey it's once a year and it was nice to see all those bikers so passionate about their cycles!!
