If it was most other people, I'd ask if you'd been born without a sense of humour or if it was yours surgically removed, but you're German. Only a German could ruin a joke that badly.

I think I know this one. It's called "ein scheiss Haarschnitt".

Hmmm. German hairdressers always speak in mm. I get a 6mm at the back and on the sides and then scissors on top.
I don't know for sure the conversion but I found this table on the web.
A #1 (according to this table) is damn short and maybe this is not what you need but it may help...
#1 Stubble Length (2 mm)
#2 Short (4 mm)
#3 Medium Short (6 mm)
#4 Medium (8 mm)
#5 Medium Long (10 mm)
#6 Long (12 mm)

Now for me, that actually *added* to the comedy. I suspect it's a coping mechanism though.

Just point at different parts of your head and show with thumb and index finger how long you need it in that area. If they screw it up, it'll grow back.
This one should maybe go in the stupid questions topic but is it acceptable here to machine cut your hair? I used to do that when I was in Canada but I see very few ppl here with very short hair like that. I don't want to be labeled a skinhead or something.
