Are there more or fewer than British bases?

As per title.
I simply need to know how many bases the USians have in Germany and if possible do you know if is it more or less than the Brits? In order to settle a disagreement with my friend on this subject. I reckon the Amis have more she says the Brits do.
So I thought I'd ask the military crew.
Thanks very much

The US Has More.. And at a a few the US/UK share the base..
MrNosey
The US definitely has more. AFAIK 4 Airforce and 13 or 14 army/marine bases.
The UK has 1 RAF base and 4 or 5 army bases.
Darkknight
US has 2 AF Bases.. Ramstein and Spangalhm.. Thats it as far as places with runways..
The rest are Army.. There are no Navy/Marine corp bases in Germany. Navy/MC
personal are almost always assigned to one of the Army/AF bases.

The US 7th Army alone is in 23 separate communities in Germany.

Whichever site you got from is out of date..

AS Einsiedlerhof = Turned over to the Army..
FRF AB Rhein-Main = Closed in Jan 2005 (Now an empty field and the Future home of FRA's T3)
ETID AAF Hanau (Fliegerhorst Kaserne) = Closed in 2008
ETEP AAF Armstrong Army Heliport = Poss. Closed in 2007
SEX AB Sembach = Closed in 2006

That map is also out of date.. All Army bases in Darmstadt, Hanau, Dexheim (And a few others I can't make out)
are closed or are in the final stages of closing.

Ahh thanks guys I really appreciate it.

So just to clarify (because you guys are contradicting each other a bit )
There are 18 American bases in Germany? Yes?
And 5 possibly 6 British bases?
And the American bases are pretty much all in the south?
Where are the Brit bases then, up north?
Is that because of the zoning after the war?

What's the seventh army Rhody?

edit: bugger, just seen Darknights last post after Rhody's. So how many then?
Darkknight
Is that because of the zoning after the war?
Yes

The US Army did have 2-3 bases around Hamburg and Bremerhaven, but those were closed
in the Late 80s/Early 90s

Sembach is not completely closed. It is now classed part of Ramstein Airbase but still open. don't know about the others but you are probably right.

Bremen and Bremerhaven were part of the American zone ...

Ok, my bad.. Kinda.. It was closed, then "Annexed" and will again become a semi-full base.. (If the below info was actioned)

Sembach Annex is the projected home of Headquarters, Seventeenth Air Force, which is planned to
stand up on 1 October 2008 to serve as the air component for United States Africa Command.
The Runways were removed, so planes can't actually land there anymore - See Pix
trollydolly
So how many bases are there then?
Darkknight
What do you define as a "Base"?
Army or Airforce?
US or UK?

Its all posted above.

Graph is dated 24 June 2008. Rhein Main is not counted in the 23 and it is black on the map. None of the other ones you mention are on the map either. If they are still open then they are still open for Trollydolly's argument with her friend even if they are in the process of being closed.

Its a good point about what is a base though. If you count barbed wire around a physical location, then in Schwetzingen there are two and they have different names. Kilbourne Barracks and Tompkins Barracks. Are they separate bases? They are both part of the Heidelberg Garrison.
