Bicycling in/near Kaiserslautern

Trails, bike shops, meeting other cyclists

Bpositive
I'm new to the Kaiserslautern area and have some bicycling-related questions:

1) Looking for English-speaking people to cycle with. If you live within driving distance of KL and would like someone to ride with, drop me a reply. I would be willing to drive to meet you somewhere in between as I have a bike rack for my car.

2) The trails through the forests around here are amazing! I would like to buy a bike that can go on the trails and also double as an around-town bike for shopping, errands, etc. The bikes at the Powerzone on base seem to be very heavy and not much selection. Can anyone recommend:
-- A local German bike shop where they speak English and carry a good selection of bikes?
-- A web site for searching for used bikes (preferably with pics)? I.e., is there an equivalent to Craig's List in Germany? It can be a German web site.

3) Looking for any recommendations of good biking trails or quiet roads in the country that are good for cycling within one hour drive of KL.

4) Looking for people to attend bicycling-related events and activities with (races, auto-frei days, Happy Mosel, etc).

Looking forward to hearing from fellow cyclists in the area!

Thanks!

Well, if you're still around, I can HIGHLY recommend "Frank's", aka Wheelsports Weselberg. It's mainly a store for folks who are at least semi-serious (aka, have spent at least a grand on a bike before and may do so again), but Frank is super friendly and loves to practice his english. He rides, and if you look him up online and follow his career, you'll probably get a discount. :-)

Also, I like to road bike and haven't found anyone else around who does the same. I'm also always down for auto-frei days. Hope you're still around. :-)

Hey Bpositive,

I am looking to buy 2 bikes for my wife and I before we move over in November. The kids have bikes but riding around here as an adult on a bike is borderline suicide being there is not much respect for the biker. Anyway, I was curious what the prices are for a decent bike, I can buy a good bike here for around 250-300 each at a local sporting goods store.

Thanks
