Day trip from Constance to Lindau

Transport options, any other tips

tlcoles
My partner and I will arrive in Konstanz on Monday morning and stay there for 4 days before moving on to an event in Singen. Is it possible to catch a boat or a quick bus to Lindau from Konstanz while we're there? We've heard great things, but wanted to mostly stay put in Konstanz. But if a quick day trip is possible...

Thanks for any tips!

Lindau is an easy day trip from Konstanz. You can hop on a ferry at the harbour and you'll take a nice long (3 hours IIRC) trip down. The ferry goes from Konstanz to Mersberg and then stops at every town along the east bank of the lake.

Wonderful to hear! Is it any particular ferry at the harbour? If you have a link to the schedule, it would be MUCH appreciated.

I used to love taking the ferry around the lake. Here's the schedule. Enjoy and don't forget to bring binoculars.

AWESOME, Bipa. Thanks! Looks like the morning boat arrives at 1 and leaves at 5:40. Are those 4 hours in Lindau enough?

Oh, wait, I see there are later ships leaving around 7. Fantastic.

I was thinking of cycling from Lindau to Constance, is this feasible / enjoyable in a day?

If you cycle to Meersburg and take the ferry across then it's about 50km, but if you cycle all the way around (via Bregenz) then it's more like 70km. There aren't any mountains to cross but it's not always flat either.

Bodensee is a very popular cycling area; many people spend a long weekend cycling around the whole lake. So it's certainly enjoyable; whether it's feasible depends on your fitness levels.
hookey
Lindau to Konstanz via Friedrichshafen / Meersburg is not as flat as Lindau to Konstanz via Bregenz, and for a long time you don't really see the lake.
When you cycle from Bregenz to Konstanz the Alps are behind you, so you don't see the Alps, but you do see the lake and feel that you are cycling along the lake.
But then, maybe it is just how I felt

Well I cycled from Lindau to Konstanz, via Bregenz. It was a fairly nice ride although the scenery and towns were perhaps not as pleasant as I had expected.

I then continued west to Stein am Rhein, which was lovely although my legs were almost giving in by the time I got there.

The following morning, I went from Stein up to Radolfzell which was a lovely bike ride - and from there caught a train to Konstanz where I got a boat over to Meersburg. I then went from Meersburg back east to Lindau.

I think it's fair to say (from a cycling viewpoint) that the southern parts of the lake aren't as pretty as the northern or western.
