Psychological services in the Munich area

Psyshrink
I am a registered Psychologist in NSW Australia and received my education training in the USA and Australia. Recently, I opened my private practice in Tutzing, a small town on Lake Starnberg. I offer therapeutic services for individuals, couples and families, including children aged 6-18 years. I also offer eTherapy, psychological counselling online and by phone. This service is particularly beneficial for those persons who are unable to get to therapy and/or are embarrassed about going therapy.

For more information about my services, please see my website at www.psyshrink.com

Should you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Warm wishes,
Cynthia

In Germany I believe you can get therapy paid for by the health insurance. Do you take such payments?
Psyshrink
Hi!

Yes, you are quite correct. In Germany you can get psychotherapy paid for by the health insurance, if the therapist you choose to go to is Approbiert (registered) in Germany. However, not all registered psychologists in Germany take public health insurance because they must also apply for a public health insurance provider number, which are very expensive and are in limited supply. If you have public health insurance, you would need to either find a therapist that has a provide number or pay privately.

I am a member of the German Psychological Society (BDP) and the Germany Society for Psychological Psychotherapists (VPP). However, I do not speak German well enough yet to be registered here.

Thus, I charge lower rates, particularly for eTherapy, to help with the out of pocket costs for my clients.

I am interested in starting group therapy sessions online to address issues facing expats (e.g., loneliness, isolations, anxiety, culture shock, homesickness, relationship problems). The sessions would be conducted in a secure chat room and consist of 8-10 participants. The cost would be 15€/person for 1 1/2 hours. If you are interested in participating, please send me a message here or at my website, www.psyshrink.com

Warm wishes,
Cynthia

loneliness, isolations, anxiety, culture shock, homesickness, relationship problems).
Do you not think that most of these problems could be solved by Not being sat in front of a computer?

I do believe therapy can be a very helpful and healthy way to try and deal with problems. I admit, it will never be a method that I consider for myself. But how can anyone think to solve their problems by slouching, alone in a chair; staring at a computer screen? Come on guys, were Human beings, It's built into our genes to interact and socialise with others in physical ways (no not sex) I’m talking about simple things like touch, smell and sound. Even something as simple as conveying the correct tone becomes difficult whilst online.

Cynthia, in your other advert someone mentioned Forum Bullying. So now we have E-bullying and E-therapy. When are we as a race going to turn around and say that this is going too far?

I'm in no way going to spout out a lot of different solutions to the above mentioned problems that would/have worked for me because simply, I don't know you. I'm simply trying to say that if you do feel like group therapy might make a positive difference in your life, at least think about performing it face to face and not via an impersonal chat forum.

Well, thats my opinion, let me know what you think.

Hi! I appreciate your comments/opinion and your obvious desire to encourage people to connect in a positive and meaningful way.

Yet it is important to consider that face-to-face therapy is not an option, nor a desire, for everyone. And, many people feel very connected to others using various communication technologies, including chat forums.

So, I am exploring the possibility of offering group therapy online as an option for those expats wishing to come together in this way, and believe that it is certainly not a modality that would suit everyone.

I would say there are times when TT has actually helped people with all of those things. I've certainly heard of the ladies forum, in particular, being a great place for support.

Everybody is different and sometimes all you need is somebody to listen.

At present, I am just getting a feel if people think it is a good idea or not for forming a therapy group online. Thus far, the feedback is overwhelming positive. I am thinking about forming groups of 8-10 participants that would be conducted in secure chat rooms (SSL encryption, password protection). These would be offered perhaps once a week at set times--which would vary to accommodate for people with varying schedules--and would go for about 1 1/2 hours.

I am also thinking about trying a Skype Conference call with 5 participants--as I find phone therapy much more fluid process than chat. However, I am not certain of the level of security with this. A chat session on skype would not be secure at all. But I think the conference call might be OK.

I was going to try arrange a 'free-test session' just to see how it goes with those persons who are struggling with loneliness/culture shock. If you are interested, please contact me.

Warm wishes,
Cynthia

good luck with this. I am also a counseling therapist, ex South Africa, and still do a lot of work with my clients over the phone. I didn't expect it to be as effective as it is ... the distance enables us to get to the heart of the matter, far quicker than in face to face meetings, and the therapy has been incredibly constructive. good luck - maybe we meet sometime and swop ideas!

HI! I am wondering if you also work with couples? If so, is it possible to do this face-to-face?

Thanks,
Tracy
