I have been here for a few months now and I am beginning to think that I am all alone. (aside from my partner) Someone told me Germany/Frankfurt had a huge gay/lesbian population, im beginning to think I was MISLED. Is there anyone out there? Anyone who speaks English is a friend in my eyes :0) We enjoy BBQ's, Day Trips, Playing Cards, going out for drinks, Casino's, or just hanging out. Im stuck here for 2 years...please can anyone tell me where to start in meeting people (gay or straight) THANKS!!!

I know this is in the Frankfurt section, but you might try dropping a line to Snooker in Berlin. Tell her ian in hamburg says hello.

There are lots of different meet-ups here on Toytown. Perhaps curry night, or the ladies 30 something night, or even the Old Farts drinking thing every Friday, or meeting up to go to the fitness center or yoga. Look around. I know there are gay bars here, just don't know the names of them. Sorry!

Doing that BBQ thing is tough here sometimes since Germans dislike the smell, and one is usually restricted to 4 times a year and you have to tell your neighbors ahead of time. Of course if you go to a park with a grill, that is always ok.

Germans dislike the smell of Barbeques?? Hmmmmm interesting, that must not pertain to all Germans as all of my immediate neighbors have Barbeques almost nightly and outside fires... Thanks for the info on where to go and what to do... I knew that had to be something...somewhere :0)

I cannot give specifics as to where, when etc but can confirm that there are many seemingly very friendly lesbians in Frankfurt. We hung out with some lesbian friends of ours at last year's CSD in FFM and met some great gals. I am sure that you will meet some good friends soon enough. All the best!

Sorry, but the title reminded me of this:- The Only Gay In The Village (YouTube)

Elaleya,
THANKS for the information. I am closer to Mainz than I am Frankfurt (Nierstein) Yeah I know, im kind of out in no mans land. Do you have any more information on the 18th in Mainz? What kind of a party? I hear foreigners tend to get punked when entering places the locals do not feel they belong :0)
Thanks Again

we found in Munich that the only way to flush out english speaking LGBT people was to organise our own monthly Stammtisch, organised through this website. Starteed small about this time last year but now we get upwards of 40 people. Berlin started doing a weekly event shortly afterwards which seems to be very successful. So maybe you could be the one to start the Frankfurt LGBT Stammtisch?

It's picked up that musty smell and is covered in cobwebs, but there is an old thread on Gay bars and clubs in Frankfurt. For meeting people generally, and to echo Moondancer's post, the TT-Frankfurt board has its own Events and meetups section where members organise, uh (*flicks through thesaurus*), meetups and thingamajigs. Maybe there is something there that will catch your eye.

This may be stating the obvious, but have you not come across any FAM groups or networks on google.de? I did a quick search on some basic terms after reading this and there's lots of info. No need to tell you of course that the "there's a decent gay scene" line often refers mainly to what's on offer for gay men and I believe that's probably true in this area. In FAM and around, I come across lots of overtly gay men and a clear scene for them, but I rarely come across out lesbians.

Also, I see a lot of people on this board who start out with "I'm in Frankfurt", but really they aren't at all. It's by no means unique to German that life is more limited "in the sticks" if we are outside the "mainstream" (whether gay, new immigrant, single or whatever).

Just make a visit to the Oscar Wilde Bookshop and ask the people there!
Also have a look for all the other shops / bars in that street.

Try a bar where the musos hang out. It's a pretty safe bet that the scene is tolerant and that English is understood,

My local is "Celsius" in Bockenheim, in the Leipziger Strasse. My band are regulars there, and two thirds of us are Brits. Plenty of lesbian guests there, all the staff and pretty much every customer there I ever talked to had a very decent command of the Queen's English. (see what I did there? hahaha!)

Not really LGBT, but mixed and easy going.

Similar in other parts of town: "Backstage" in the Rohrbachstrasse, Nordend. Bit sort of old school anarcho-punk. Or "Nachtleben" in the town centre on the Zeil. More sort of up-market.

Don't really know about strictly gay places, I tend to avoid them just as much as the strictly straight bars.

Cheers!
