Meetup to practice speaking German

Hi my name is David Ive been living in Hamburg for about one year now but my German is still in 1st gear as every one here loves to speak english but I really would like to improve my German so if there is any one out there who would like to meet up and practice German together let me know.

Yeah for sure. I am American, but I am almost completely fluent in German.
So send me a PM about when you want to meet up. Weekend are usually the best for me, but send me the times when you are free and we'll work something out.

At the risk of repeating myself for the nth time - join some activity outside of work/family. I did - and the people around me there did not speak English (or at least did not let on) and I learnt a skill (flying) and the language. Made a lot of friends & continues to this day. Flying was easier to learn....

sounds great! My friend is looking for a small group of people who would like to start some sort of German Stammtisch. This weekend or during the week would be great. Meet at some cafe or pub and practice our German!

Well...how about we meet Saturday at 5pm at Slatterys Irish Pub, Fischmarkt Straße. Its right on the harbour, and if the weather is good we can sit outside. Its a quiet bar, and would be a nice place to meet up and have a chat. :-)

I really want to speak and improve my German... I always speak German when I'm in public but people can always tell I'm not a native speaker and almost always switch to English w/out me asking and it's so much easier for both of us then I almost feel like I'm inconveniencing them by continuing to speak in German once they've switched. I don't really know how to meet German people (other than my bf) but if anyone knows of somewhere I could go I'm open to suggestions! I am considering registering for an extra class in the Volkshochschule since it's cheap and I've taken my German classes there earlier.. and other ideas would be greatly appreciated!

The same thing with me. I want to practice my German as well, because it is really BAAAD. I am just a beginner!!
