So I got my arse modded for a wee bit of MAC worship on another thread - so this thread is mine - its all mine!! *wicked laugh sound*

I trust the mods will mod any naughty PC users that creep over here and say anything good about PC's. Fair innit??

So, first rule of my new Mac religion:

1. ALL PC USERS HAVE REALLY REALLY TINY WILLIES COMPARED TO MAC USERS.
Gen
I don't know, I think lazyism was more compelling religionwise.
Moonboot
MAC users rule.

A recent (2002) Nielsen//NetRatings report shows they are more educated, live in higher income households and are more Web savvy than their PC-compatible counterparts.

what's this about a worm? Oh that's right I'm using a mac.

@iain No idea - no worms on my computer - Linux or Windows.

Goodies use Macs, baddies use PCs
Studies have shown that Hollywood has a tendency to make its baddies use PCs, and its heroes use Macs. Fact. That's why Jack Bauer and his CTU colleagues on 24 solve major terrorist threats using machines built for OS X. And when Jeff Goldblum wanted to infect the Independence Day mothership with a virus to save the world from destruction, what did he use? A PowerBook 5300. Except, of course, you won't find a virus on a Mac.
mlovett
I've been using Macs since the '80s and I don't even have a willy!
Moonboot
oh you do, it's just really tiny.

Relying on Hollywood and TV for your technology choices is not something to be recommended.

April 1st day news - Mac users miss link Between Cider and Apple

My first computer was a Fat Mac 512:

Good paperweight, that.

Yes, I should have held on to it. There is a guy somewhere making them into fish tanks. Not sure what I will do with my PowerMac G5 - it's 5 years old and still going strong. No reinstalls, crashes or all of the other crap those loser PCs have.

April 1st day news - Mac users miss link Between Cider and Apple

To be fair Macintosh is for eating and not for cider making. Unfortunately most of the varieties that make good cider have been left almost to extinction. The big cider makers have reduced it down to about 10 different varieties of apples, which are sutible for cider that are still grown in abundance.

Anyway I must admit loving my mac. although I don't use it as much as I would like.

This was my first computer, an iMac: IIRC the hard disk was a massive 6GB!

Your first computer had a hard drive? And the hard drive was measured in gigabytes??? Are you in your very early 20s or a recovering technophobe?

I still have my SE.

Damn ex-boyfriend donated my IBM luggable to goodwill when we split up, though.

But we do have more money to spend on beer because we didn't pay over the odds for something just because it's white and has a half eaten granny smiths on it.
iain
hold up there, I am arguably in my early twenties (well not really anymore 25 is getting up there I guess ) but my first computer did not have a hard drive. We got really exited when we got a whole ten megabytes of hard drive. Our IIsi had a wopping 80 megs which we started expanding with two extra hard drives after a couple of years.

We did have some PowerPC thing in there after that, but I don't remember many of the specs of that. The love of my computer life though was my first laptop, got before I started college the Powerbook G3 with 500Mhz of screaming power, 500Mb RAM I can't remember what the bus was, but it worked a treat. I eventually had to replace it because it got to slow. Now I have a nice wee MacBook 2Ghz processor and a gig of ram, which I should probably update. Doesn't have as much personality as the old Powerbook, however it does run a lot smoother.

Ah, but you need more beer just to deal with your computer. Drink the computer beautiful

I must admit not much of my money is spent on beer.
Allershausen

It's a long time since I was in my twenties! Up until I bought my iMac I couldn't really see the point of a computer at home, that opinion soon changed!

@iain - maybe the next mac version will be called White-Lighting

I brewery near where I live make good cider. I hope from apples. I have not seen any scrumpy around though...

I lurve my big hard shiney Mac for work cos it just gets the shizz done, zero fuss, zero stress, 100% reliable. But I must admit, I'm being swung to toodling with various linux distros on a laptop I have at home, and it's good fun. For sheer fuckaroundability, linux is awesome.

Any computer can do that, given the right 3d software and time...

Jeezus, DK, you are obsessed. I think you should seek professional help, dude.
SharkKicker
Just because I can - in those heady 80s days in Socal I visited some nerdy people developing a computer they called Sun, played Chopper before it was released, and saw a demonstration of the first Mac - strangely in a garage type location. My dad opted to buy a Toshiba which had a DOS-like language and it's green screen mesmerised me for nights on end. I was too young then to know to network.

Macs are great but the culture of by deliberately delaying feature introduction to generate upgrade sales shits me. It's clear Steve, bless his health, Jobs' leadership has had a great mpact on the company, but one takes the good with the bad.

worms? Do people still write malware for G4 versions of OSX??
Darkknight

Same could be said of yourself, for always responding to my Mac posts. At least this time there was no Mac bashing.

Sure, if its a Universal Binary.

I'm only interested, it's not personal: Do you find noone takes you seriously because your bent is so obvious?

Riiiiight. Like I am the ONLY one who has ever noted your obsession.

A small selection, for your viewing pleasure...
Surely not - DK slagging off Apple. You're not really Bill Gates are you?

Hi all, for those that don't know Darkknight is TT's local geek, who has a weird obsession with Apple.

DK, why do you hate Apple so much?

Why do you so hate Apple?
Did Steve Jobs steal your wife or something?
We all have our tech preferences but your visceral hatred seems a bit extreme

I don't think he's ever answered that question and it's been asked a few times.

Darkknight, I know you've been asked this question several times by different people, but where does your animosity towards Apple come from? Did you once own a Mac that cheated on you? What? Really, what is it that makes you so bitter?

Darkknight, you just sound like a bit of a psycho the way you go on about Apple.

Maybe you are a closet Mac fanboy, kinda like the most vocal homophobes tend to be gay themselves...

Ummmm... what? If you think about what you've written, you're not making any sense. The only reason to withhold technology in order to get people to upgrade later would be if technological progress has stopped.

It hasn’t… so there will be new technology to upgrade to in the future regardless of whether you “hold back” stuff now.

Do you think Apple has a big warehouse of advanced Intel processors that they are just waiting until 2015 to release? No, they haven’t been built yet.
RS500Guy
Apple definitely holds things back, but I think it's strategic business planning, not consumer gouging.

Take iPhone OS cut and paste. This should have been a v1.0 feature, but with some recent developments in 10.6 it seems pretty clear that Apple wants to harmonize OSX into a single platform for desktop, laptop, table, mobile, and TV. Most of the new UI features in all these platforms are focused on "gestures" and this is really geared at support for tablets, iPhone, and AppleTV.
ian
Lots of companies, Nokia for example, review the potential of delaying a feature if they think that it will not hurt sales too much in the short term for more sales later. It makes business sense if it does not hurt your image too much.
Darkknight
Apples holding back and secretive ways may be good for them, but their own board have also been kept in the dark
on many things and they have repeatably complained about this. The US Govt. is also interested as well as when anything
good/bad is mentioned about Steve their share prices go crazy. The SEC think they are holding back bad news to keep
their share prices up, which is I guess a big no-no.

Agreed. Not so much on their PCs though, as the market is more competitive and standardized there.

For the phone, as I've said numerous times, they are not the most advanced when judged on pure numerical specifications, because that isn't what people want. People want, sadly for Darkknight, a phone that "just works" where they don't have to "hack" it to get it working. The iPhone software is simply more polished and usable than other smartphones, which is why it is such a runaway success.

For their PCs, it's actually often the other way around: Apple's tight control of OS and hardware specs, coupled with their (relatively) small volume, allow them to use a lot of the newer technology before their competitors.
Krieg

Like you and your "Bad days for Apple" thread. LOL

Wow, you posted a Google search link! Quality, in-depth research, I say.

Oops, except all of the first 10 links that came up were over 6 months old, some years old.

Being the intrepid researcher I am, I searched Google news with your "Apple SEC investigation", and all that came up (on the first page, anyway, I couldn't be arsed to dig deeper) was one link with a rumor of an investigation. Hardly proof, no?

That being said, there might be something out there I missed. But if you are going to make accusations, at least do the legwork to back them up, please.

iPhone is awesome. It even has support for OpenGL ES 2.0. Wait till I port the Unreal Engine for it

No need to, they already ported the Play Station 1 and Game Boy Advance emulators:
