Looking for cure for crazy heater

turns itself on

Okay, I am going to do the obvious and call in the professionals, but partly curious as to whether anyone has experienced the same thing and if there's some simple answer.

We have gas heating for our flat. We keep it at a fresh 18.5 degrees during the day. We both left the house before 9am yesterday and when we came home last night around 8:30pm, the heater was on full blast and the temperature was registering 26 degrees! blink.gif Not good for the gas bill.

It's acted up a little before, doing the same stunt, but I was always at home to shut it off for a few hours to let it reflect upon its sins and then turn it back on. This is first time it's done it for such a long period of time.

Anyone have a clue what might be wrong?

fucking freezing in here...

Same here NoFx. My darling landlord has the heater set so the whole block losses access to heat and hot water from around 1 in the morning till 5 in the morning. God its cold sometime in Germany.

If you don't have direct control over your heating, the apartmnet must by law be able to maintain a temperature of 20°C at all times. You can always turn down the heater controls to mak it cooler, butthat's the minimum temperature. If your place is below that, go straight to the Mietverein. Had I only known about that 11 years ago as we sat freezing until the bitch landlord turned on the heating on Oct 15 or something like that.

woof.

is your thermostat working well showem? Maybe it's that and not the heater itself that's messed up.

The thermostat gives the temperature and is also where I set the temperature. Set: 18.5, Reading: 26.0. No draft going past there either. They installed it just last year. They weren't able to come by today, so I have to arrange an appointment on Monday. That or see if I know an exorcist who works weekends.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll keep an eye on it from now on... I have one of these Indoor/outdoor temerature gauges so I'll try to set it up to record the minimum temp over night.
