The German-Irish Society is proud to present the third Greenfarm Festival which will run over the weekend June 19.- 21. 2009. The festival takes place on an idyllic organic farm in Hallbergmoos, very near Munich and right next to the airport.

Moving forward from the success of last year's festival, we have increased the number of bands from Germany, Ireland and Austria who are taking part, covering the wide spectrum of Irish music played by German and Irish bands bands in Germany as well as traditional German folk music played by native German bands and, of course, guest artists from Ireland. There will be a total of 5 stages; 3 open-air and 2 indoor.

The festival will also have two days of sporting events. The Munich Caledonians and The Munich Scottish Association will look after the „Highland Games“ and Scottish flinging while the Munich Colmcilles GAA Club will present Irish Hurling and football. Everyone is invited to take part in all of the games. We are also organising the Munich heat of "The Rose of Tralee" on Friday, 19. June 2009. Check into the website for full details of performing bands, artists, dance groups and events.

Among other facilities the festival offers on-site camping and parking, a free shuttle bus service from the local train station to the festival site, beer tents, sessions, workshops, organised catering, an Irish market, bathing in the on site lake, kids' playground and an open stage for visiting musicians.

I guess I stand no chance of being the Rose of Tralee, being a big fat hairy bloke and all! However last years Green Farm festival was excellent, and I will make sure I don't miss it this year. See if you can recognise famous TTers in these Pictures 2008.

Don`t want to miss it again this year!
hams
Slightly discriminatory...

The potential Rose candidates have to be 18 - 28, unmarried (never having been married), of Irish ancestry and so on and so forth... and the Escort - could well be ian! No eligibility requirements whatsoever.
livi
@hams: totally agree!
hams
I'm just pissed off as I don't meet any of the requirements... life has now passed me by.
livi
We might pass as escorts though
belly button
Are people from this forum going to meet there?
eurovol
I hope not. I want to go and not be pestered by the TT hoards!
Keydeck
I'm hoping to be there, taking photos and avoiding Eurovol as per usual.
Orla_inka
taking photos.

Looking forward to them already.

Have fun.

We have a stand at the "Stadtgründungsfest" on 13./14. June 2009 if you'd like to drop by and get more information about Greenfarm Festival 2009..
Our stand is right next to the Marienhof subway exit/entrance. We have live Irish music and dance and beer and food and stuff on both days.
Do drop by!
I or one of the team will be only too glad to help.

I keep mixing up which thread's where -- the camping trip to Greenfarm is of course quite appropriately in Meetups, not in Events. The weather looks like it'll be scattered showers though...
ian
The atmosphere was great last year. A "don't miss" event. So you can imagine how it will be late into the evening!
I intend to spontaneously camp overnight there and not join the organised camping on the other thread though.

One Question though, what entrance ticket would I need to go on Saturday, Camp overnight, have a full breakfast and go home in the morning?
Gen
Eintritt €5/Tag, Wochenendticket €10, Familienticket €10, Kinder bis 12 Jahre frei
Camping: €3.- Euro pro Person pro Tag ** Frühstück Buffet €5 pro Person

Looks to me like 18 Euros for what you want, ian. I'm doing the same thing.
ian
It's not that clear though. Does that mean I need to pay entrance just to get breakfast and leave? Or is the camping inside the event anyway?
I could have 2 breakfasts instead! :-)
garibaldi
Gen is as usual "super right". Thanks Gen!
Gen
Now there was a ska band last year, will they be on this year too? I don't remember their name or I'd look myself.
garibaldi
What is a "ska band"?
Gen
Define ska? Hmm. The band I mean were the guys who didn't sound sooo great on the demo but turned out to be fabulous. Remember now? Or does that happen a lot?
pjm
Based on a quick listen to some of the links, there is a "ska" band playing and this could be them

http://www.irish-steirisch.at/welcome.htm

If this is them, they are on sunday at 18.30 in the festival hall.

I can recommend Sliotar who play saturday night - many is the time I have enjoyed them in Dublin's Porter House.
garibaldi
Remember now? Or does that happen a lot?

Yeah, Baronial drugs, you see..
There again, when you get as many demos and book as many bands as I do throughout the year - I may be forgiven.
I'm a trad man myself.
crusoe
Could you lot pray just a leetle bit harder for sun, please? Or at least for the rain to stop? It's looking kinda soggy outside. However, it's not going to stop us. Wellies on and away we go.
riri
See you later Crusoe!! Now where's my poncho?? Just thinking, we could turn it into a Glastonbury affair if this weather keeps up! Okay okay 6 Novenas and a dozen candles to be lit!!
Gen
Thanks for the listening, pjm! I'll make sure to catch them -- the front fella does even look like the one I remember.

The website works fine (as long as you have Flash installed, as most people do...).

Friday's shuttle goes from 17:30 -1, Saturday's from 10am-2am, Sunday's from 10am-8pm.

FYI. I think I'm going to skip the camping after all.
don_riina
I don't know why I've never been to this? I go to loads of stuff at the Hausler Hof, but never this event. weird.
the_eagle
How safe is this Greenfarm festival with regard to SwineFlu?

Does the farm itelf harvest pigs?

Now wanting to cause a panic...
Derekbeggs
As Pigs dont generally grow on trees, shouldnt that be breed, rather than harvest.

Pedant mode off.

Alchohol: your friend and disinfectant.

Google map to the site

Hey, is it really THE Well-Buam who'll be playing Saturday night? Wow, maybe hubby will come along after all!
ThePieman
I just decided to go with tent... Anyone else going today with Sbahn or car?
madgibson
Alchohol: your friend and disinfectant.

Well, that'll be The Eagle sorted - no need to worry old chap!!
ian
No rain is forecast for Saturday. At all.
Edit: OK. It rained a bit just then! But that will not stop us!
madgibson
Great day out yesterday as always and despite rain in Munich & Freising we got away with only a few drops. Eating Tim's pies was the hightlight of my day Glad it stayed dry for the campers last night too
Renia
Does anyone know if you can take dogs in?

Would like to meet friends there today that have a dog.

Thanks!
DDBug
There were people there yesterday with dogs (on leashes) not many though.

And you'll probably run into about half the people you know from TT! Good fun!
Renia
Will go in disguise then
ian
Had a great time camping by the lake. There was boy-girl action, girl-girl-boy action (the tent where they were making humpey noises). Skinny-dipping. A she-male band! Well, a lot of blokes in skirts. Beer till the wee hours and who were all those people I spoke to?

My pictures here didn't capture the naughty bits. But you can see who was there.

Gen
Great fun as before, but reliable shuttle service this time. They even ran later than scheduled yesterday when the last band rocked till 9.

Where's the caber tossing video?
garibaldi
Thanks for coming along. Hope you all had fun.

I was looking forward to the pies too but unfortunately mine wasn't cooked properly - raw pastry and raw hard potato inside :-(

It was my first Greenfarm festival - paid for the whole weekend with tent but unfortunately got rushed to hospital on Saturday (it wasn't the pies ) with heart problems. Had a great time though and am already looking forward to the next one. Thanks to Garibaldi et al for all their hard work!
