Sambal Oelek in a jar

Fuchs' new recipe version is excellent

You owe it to yourselves to go and buy some of this gear - it's truly delish, and "feurig scharf" - which makes a nice change

Toom stocks it - as I would imagine do the other multiples.

Sambal Oelek has been in the shops here for quite a while, or is there something special about the Fuchs one in particular?
crusoe
The clue is probably the "new recipe".

God, you can get it almost anywhere. The stuff from the Turkish shops is really hot stuff.

I have some of that stuff in a cupboard and have no idea what to do with it. Any ideas?

I'm very impressed by Fuchs' other selection of spice pestos too, they've got some awesome dish-enhancers that will turn a dull pasta into a flavor explosion. I'll give the sambal a try, but you should also look at their other combos. I especially liked the Italia Kräuter one.

Hello, I just cook lamb soup with this sambal. You can check the recipe in my blog here http://zbethz.wordpress.com/2009/03/27/ton...ian-lamb-curry/

Btw I tried several brands of sambal oelek, but not yet Fuchs'. So far in my opinion all taste same, salty hot. Will try this Fuchs!

How salty is this Sambal Oelek? How large a jar is it?
Kuzzer
About 5cm diameter.

I tried it. It's not so salty, but doesn't have good flavor and isn't that hot either. And the jar is very small. I won't buy it again.

Please yourself - it's all down to personal taste. As I said, I think it's an excellent product - very fully flavoured.

oh wow, never in my entire life would i expect to see a very traditional indonesian condiment in germany! i only see them in a VERY specialised asian market or my mom's pantry, but then again... things are getting more common these days, maybe i will see salad chingur in the future who knows, but i can't stand it, and my parents' always shames me everyday for not liking it even though i'm part indonesian... i guess my tastebuds are not common. have you tried "Sambal ABC"? try the sweet and spicy one, it is absolutely delicious, and will completely replace ketchup once you try it!

Indonesian spices etc have been available in Germany for ages - probably due to the close proximity of Holland.

I seem to remember Connimex being a good brand but I don't see it in the shops down here. Probably in Munich and other bigger places, but I haven't found it locally.

well, i guess that is true. we were colonized by the netherlands until about the 1950-1960s so that would make it highly probable
