Jobs in Osnabr端ck

Tips for English-speakers on finding work

Pages: 1 2
Blackhawk
Hi everyone,

My wife and I moved to Germany about nine months ago. We moved back to Osnabr端ck as she has family and a good job as a teacher at a gymnasium.

I am Australian and have left my family and friends back in Australia. I know no one here. I sold everything I had as it was just too expensive to bring it all to Germany. I speak a little German as when I got here I attended some German classes to get the basics down and to be able to communicate.

Now it's time to start life here. I'm trying to get a job in Osnabr端ck.

I have got some work here and there as an English teacher but 40 euro a month just isn't going to cut it. So I would be very grateful if anybody has some ideas or has a position open they want to fill. I am willing to do all kinds of work.

For more details please contact me.

Thankyou.

Might be difficult, most places including the steel works at GM H端tte just south of Osnabr端ck are all now on short work, the Finanzkrise is really hitting the place...

Hi Blackhawk, I'm an Aussie living/working nearby. Around Christmas time I was out with colleagues, speaking to them in English (as I do) and a lady came up to me asking if I was by any chance looking for work... Well no, I'm currently on contract, but apparently she was scouting for her company (and I'm guessing they're based in Osna) for native English speakers. That particular job involves traveling to companies in the area and teaching the employees English. Would be teaching, but on a permanent basis. I'm really sorry I don't have a name or number to give you, but there are opportunities like such out there. And she said that they were desperate for people.

Thanks guys.

I know things are pretty bad out there at the moment but I always thought there would be something.

Peffanie if you ever catch up with this mysterious woman headhunting for staff to teach English I would be very, very grateful if you got her details and sent them to me.

I guess I will just keep trying to get something out there.

PS. I've heard there is alot of English and Australians in Osnabr端ck. Anyone know anything about this? Who hangs where?

The British Army is still in Osnabr端ck in fairly large numbers, although they're planing to move out if what I'm told is correct. The main NAAFI, and therefore one of the main gathering points for English-speakers is (or was) at Woolwich Barracks on Sedanstrasse.

Thanks mate.

From what I know "was" is more the term to use with the British. As far as I know they have all packed up and headed home to Blighty. They did the whole parade and show thing and marched out of Osnabr端ck.

They're selling off the bases and all the British housing to mostly families now.

But, I'm glad I stumbled upon this website. It seems pretty good.

Always plenty of jobs teaching English as the pay and conditions are that bad that nobody stays...

Hello and welcome to Osnabr端ck if you are interested in meeting a few Britts you could always get down to the British Legion ( and you don't have to be an ex soldier ) not sure what evenings they are open but at the weekend they are deffinitly open the address is Berghoff str 3 49090 Osnabr端ck. As for a job Try one of the big transport companies ( Hellman or Meyer+Meyer Or DPD in Melle they are all international companies and English is one of the requirements you need but not promiseing that you will get work ) in the legion though you might meet someone who can help futher

Thanks for the welcome mate.

Thanks for the tips too. I really appreciate it. Might duck down and check out those companies and try my luck. I've got nothing to lose.

Might even check out the British Legion. Didn't know it existed. Grab a beer and see whats going on.

All the best. Thankyou.

BlueStar29, How kind of you to offer that guy a job.

I find myself in the same situation - coming out to live just north of Osnabr端ck in July and looking for work. Don't know if your job offer was accepted or you have any other leads... If so I'd be very interested. I'm just trying to explore possibilities, am very flexible and open to ideas and suggestions.

Thanks.

This is worth a look: http://www.private-tutors.org/
They refer people who are looking for tutoring in English and other subjects, at no charge to the tutor.

Hi, just thought I would say when the Legion in Osnabr端ck is open. Friday and Saturday evening till late, Sunday from 12-5 pm, but if there are lots of members present then it may be open a little longer.

Prices are good, well below that of a German Bar.

We are currently doing lots of renovations, which should be finished in a couple of weeks, but are still open for business.

Because we are basically a private club, we do prefer that members sign in guests, but you won't have any problems if you just turn up

On Saturday 19th September the bar will not be opening until very late as most of the bar volunteers will be at another event. But the doors are expected to be open by about 9 pm.
