Focus.de: Bayern: Rechtsextreme verprügeln jungen Mann in Kempten

Update: Summary translation...

In Kempten, Bavaria, two right-wing extremists have beaten up and insulted a 19-year old with racist comments. The two skinheads were to police and were arrested a short while later.

Hi Mobi, it's good form, and indeed forum policy, that you should write at least something in English rather than just throwing up a link and a quote.
Johnny English
Hardly news is it? Punch-ups outside our local disco every weekend between Turks and Germans. Just kids having fun. UK newspapers would be 12,000 pages thick if this stuff was news.

Right you are, Keydeck. Newbie here.

I wonder if this attack was a drunken brawl or symptomatic of a casual everyday racism in Bavarian society that got acted upon when these guys were drunk. The town has a population of 60,000 and I don't think it was overrun by visible minorities.

Aren't small town supposed to be more friendly or something. Some old world charm eh?
Johnny English
Definetely casual everyday racism. We have a club meets every Wednesday evening in my village. We put pillowcases on our heads and chase the darkies around town until retiring for a few well-earned beers. Actually I think the darkies appreciate the exercise.

I've been to Kempten many times and I've never seen any overt racism but as with any small town, narrow mindedness is challenged less due to less exposure to diversity.
Carl46
Johnny English, please explain what you mean when you use the term, "darkies".
gideon
Anyone without a dark sense of irony I guess...
Kay
I thought he meant people wearing dark glasses.
Johnny English
Correct Kay. In the winter months it can be a total nightmare. We have the pillowcases on our heads and they have their shades on. Forever bumping into lamposts and stubbing my toe on kerbs.

I guess what Johnny English means by 'darkies' are people made of dark matter. You know, dark energy.

Cannot be seen.

2 drunken skinheads out of a total population of 60,000 don't exactly make for "widespread racism". Btw, the incident happened at 3:30 am. I am told that in the small Bavarian town where I grew up (population 45,000), groups of young Russian-Germans routinely beat up strangers in the wee hours of the morning if they are unable to talk to them in Russian.

It's the opposite. Even without racism, if we ('city' kids/teens) ventured through the villages in 100km surrounding for the odd party you always had the village boys rattling their sabres. Sometimes "where are you from?" "eh... what?" *kazoooong* That never happened in another city similar size to ours (>0,5 million).

Dorfjugend, you know. In many aspects growing up in the city is easier than in the village. I will not move to the countryside when i have kids.

edit: I belonged to the last generation of 16-18 year olds who enjoyed life without internet. So we indeed ventured out to all those odd places.

Pretty much the only time I see fights in Freising is during the Volksfest. The teenagers drink too much, their hormones are running wild, and their playground arguments spill over into a beer-tent fight. It's Germans vs. Turks vs. Eastern Europeans. They grow out of it after leaving school.

Indians again attacked in Eastern German city.
