How to pay for food and drinks at Oktoberfest

Are vouchers required or can you pay cash?

Hi I have a quick question about Oktoberfest.
I am coming over from the UK (my parents live in Munich) for Oktoberfest this year, and as there are only 3 of us girls coming over I have established that we don't need to make reservations. However could someone let me know if we need to get vouchers from somewhere before we turn up or do we pay in cash for both food and drink whilst we are there?
Thank you so much! Very much appreciate your help!

no, you can pay cash. The tents make you buy vouchers if make a reservation so they are assured revenue but otherwise everything is pay cash as you go. Especially during a week day you just roll up and sit down in any non-reserved area. You can ask to join people at their tables if there are none free. If you are going on a saturday or sunday you will need to be outside the tent queueing very early to get a table (some tents as early as 8am). Since there is only 3 of you (and you are girls) you shouldn't have a problem trying to join other peoples' tables if you go around 3pm or 4pm but be warned, the most popular tents tend to close the doors because of over-crowding.

Some tents offer a coupon service: You can order coupons via fax and use them to pay for your food and drink, the advantage being that you don't have to carry tons of cash around. These coupons are not attached to a reservation, you can use them any place or time in the tent (providing you get a seat - no seat = no food/drink).

As the official beer price has not yet been announced you can put in orders now but won't know what they will cost. Wait until the end of May, the sites should be updated then.

If you get into a tent without a reservation (not as easy as you'd think on evenings and weekends), you'll still need to be at a table to get a drink. This is the method I used before I was too successful and ended up old and married.

First, be pretty and smiling. Make sure your friends are also pretty and smiling. Next, find a table full of men in your approximate age range or a range you think will appreciate your pretty smilingness. Now, engage them in conversation. Tell them that you need to sit down in order to get a drink, and if they let you squeeze onto their table for the duration of time it takes to get the drink you'll be immensely grateful and talk away to them. The deal is that if they like having you at the table by the time your drinks arrive, you get to stay, and if they'd prefer to go back to their male bonding you'll leave them be and take your drinks and go.

Unless they have male-bonded to you. Make sure that you can get away of you don't like their behavior. Security is your friend if they get too familiar.
