Greeks in Munich

Any folk from Greece reading TT?

Toytown Germany > Discussion forum > South Germany > Munich > Meetups in Munich
Sweetbee
I was just wondering if there are any Greeks in TT or persons learning modern Greek.
BobsAfro
Look. This is a board for native English speakers, right? That means your chances of finding Greeks, Poles, French, Americans, Martians, or people from anywhere else where the native language is not English are pretty damn slim. In fact, there is more chance of this lady looking down and actually being able to see her toes.

And she's dead.

Okay?
Memo
I beg to differ... The native speakers' board concept changed over time and so did the motto of the site (just look at the upper left corner of the screen, right under "Toytown Munich"). Granted, it's not for people who want to improve their English, either, but I believe the question is fair, especially the bit about people learning modern Greek. We have Dutch people here (e.g. Sparty), German people (e.g. Badger), etc. I am the only Turkish person on the board I believe, but still...

To quote the forum user guidelines:
QUOTE
1.2 All fluent English speakers who live in Munich are welcome to join the forum. If your ability at English is weak, or you don't live in Munich (and have never lived in Munich or never plan to move to Munich) then sorry! This forum is not for you. The forum is not intended to be an English language practice school for Germans. If you are German and your English needs improvement, we suggest you take a look at The Wall Street Institute or Sprach Duo. Besides the language restriction thing... race, color, nationality, creed, and gender are all beams of light refracted through one great prism.

I am not trying to start a flame war, nor a discussion about what the forum should be like. Actually, I am just stating the obvious, as it were.

As they say in German, "nichts für ungut".

@Sweetbee
If you have a question about Greek, send a PM, I might be able to help or find help.

Well said Mr. Memo, well said.

And erm that woman can clearly see her toes from the position that she's sitting in in that photo wink.gif

That isn't what I was asked when I signed up.

What language is it then that the Americans speak??? huh.gif

Last time I was there (which was couple of weeks ago) the Americans were speaking English. Well, at least it sounded like English. I don't know about now cuz things change so fast now-a-days.

Mind you, I do know a Greek-Canadian in Munich, funny thing her mother tongue is English ...

Geez, what's this world coming to?? tongue.gif

Incidentally, if you're looking for Greeks in Munich there are plenty to be found in Red Sax on Residenzstr and also in Doro's.
More tea, Vicar?
Red Sax

"The team is Greek and so are many of the guests."

Make that "the team is slow and many of the guests are 17".

Great looking bar. Shame about the cocktails, the service and the acne.

Can I be sued for this Bob? Will you lose some sponsorship money?

Wait a second... if you wrote that in English, and I speak American, yet I was able to understand everything... does that mean I'm Bilingual?! I was bilingual even before I decided to learn German? WOW

rolleyes.gif Hope my sarcasm was sensed by all.

@jerseygirl

You fell for that hook, line and sinker. Really, the Brits and the Yanks love each other.
jerseygirl
I know I know... I was actually referring more to the joke "What do you call a person who can only speak two languages - bilingual, one language - American".

Cheers

Well, I am Greek, I don't live in Munich though, my parents do and I frequently visit them so it's very interesting that I have joined this site... And, by the way, I do speak English, as I've been living in London... There you go... ph34r.gif

That's cheating, that is...
At the time I wrote that message (about my being the only Turkish person on the board), you were not a member... Hmpfh...

A thread brought back to life with a posting that Bobsafro should be glad that I didn't see when he made it. wink.gif
