What you reckon lads on lassies, is this the weather for snowboarding say in Lengries/Garmisch area...I have tomorrow in mind...its wet snow?

Hard to judge??

Any ideas??

I'm thinking the same thing...but soft and wet is better than icy.
Last Sunday at St Johan it was really nice on the piste. Just the right amount of meltedness and no roots or stones showing through anywhere. Off piste a bit too slow and thick except right at the top in the pristine bits. It was nice and sunny too.

Haven't had a really nice powder day this year

I was in Leogang last weekend and the powder was lovely on top . . . after the middle station, the ice rain was beginning to take it's toll on the piste. According to the Skicircus website Leogang, Saalbach, and Hinterglem are getting fresh snow tomorrow and Monday.

Right - am def heading boarding tomorrow - by car.
Max outbound drive time 1.5 hrs (i.e. not further than St Johan) any suggestions where please?

I have a lot of ski-specific informational links on the website I run. I've tried to consolidate as much as I could to help skiers/snowboarders out with checking conditions, weather, etc... It's not perfect, but I do have a more than full-time job too I'll be doing a lot more to it once things calm down for me after the ski season is over. Don't laugh at the layout or design please....I know that GoDaddy's software sucks, but I just don't have time to fix that right now

SkiWelt or Kitzbuhel. Most bang for your buck and it's really close to you. Jenner in Berchtesgaden is also a blast if you do a little exploring.

I've only scored two good days of powder all year. One day was at Jenner where it was nipple deep up top. It was the first big snowfall of the year there and I skied some near-vertical faces and ended up putting some good notches in my bases after hucking a couple of drops. It was still a lot of fun, but stupid as I was by myself while my friends were off nursing beers in the mid-station restaurant with blizzard conditions raging outside.

I also caught Saalbach/Leogang on a good day. Not deep, but damn fun.

Now, I've been forced to take a couple months off. I hit a buried fence post at SkiWelt and put a tear in my patellar tendon and ACL. MRI revealed the damage but the doc doesn't want to do surgery right now. Instead I'm going through some cartilage injection therapy that is supposed to help along with the rest. He says I can ski in two weeks, but I have to take it very easy. I don't know how to do that

Fresh snow and sunshine forecasted; I can imagine the traffic being pretty awful tomorrow, so try and find somewhere close to the Autobahn. The gridlock starts as soon as you hit the single-lane roads. You could take the Kufstein Autobahn into the Inn valley somewhere.

Right - going to Soll

Went there before and know now not to stray too far from the car park late in the day. Killer leg burner trip back all on heel edge for some reason. Ouch!
Traffic was bearable on the way to St Johan last Sunday. Coming back however was a completely different proposition.

Think we'll go into the town and have dinner and relax before joining the traffic jam at the end of the day.

Any recommendations for a fun bar/restaurant nr Soll starting at about 5ish?

Head out early (say 5am) and aim for the Soell parking lot at SkiWelt. You should avoid the worst of the traffic. This is the quickest base area to get to at SkiWelt. The gondola should be open around 8am or 8:15am. I know it says 8:30, but I slept in my car in the lot this season and they let me on at 8am.

you're mad ....5am...we'll be heading off about 8ish I reckon. That gives a long enough day on the slopes for me in my pretty terrible state of fitness.

I hope you had a good time ollya! I wish I could be down there skiing. Alas, I'm at home, nursing a hangover and just happy to have the day off from work finally. I wonder if alcohol is good for my knee? My doc seems to think so. He's such a cool orthopedist. He told me to 'relax any way I could'. I asked him if schnapps was a good way to relax and he laughed and then said 'yes, it would help - you'. Haha. I'm pretty high-strung I guess.

I'll use today to organize my digi pictures, relax, and just enjoy being with my lady. I still wish I was skiing though

I'll revive this thread as it's getting to be that time. Has anyone been to Hintertux yet this year? I am thinking about going this weekend. Looks like they are getting dumped on with this current storm cycle.
munichjoe
ive been to hintertux 3 times in the last month and a half.... the first cpl times it was still pretty good, although you couldnt get back down to Fernerhaus except with the gondola.... but last time i was there was for the Hotzone.tv park opening weekend (first WE in oct.) and they had a few more lifts open and you could ski/board down to the Fernerhaus, but it was ICEY!!!

That said... ive also been watching the bergfex site for hintertux and also talked to a friend who lives down in AUT... yea theyve gotten a good bit of new snow... but im not sure what the current condidtions are.

Would u be driving down or taking the train? Would u be staying overnight or driving back?

Hi Joe, planning to drive there early Sat am, stay overnight, come back Sun eve.

Looking at the webcams and the weather, they should have gotten a ton of snow this past week

cheers,
dave
