Activities in the Kirchheimbolanden area

Ideas for daytime things to do and see

shelbyeileen
to keep myself and my 2 year old busy during the day. We're new to the area and love to get out and do things. Does anyone have any suggestions for things to do/see? Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Not really much to do out there, your out in the stix/backwoods/middle of nowhere.
Your going to have to get a car, or travel by train to get to somewhere even close to interesting.

Car isn't a problem. I have one on the side of the house. Just am not too sure where to take it yet!

Hello,

I am an American married to a German living in Kirchheimbolanden (Kibo) as well.

Our children are a bit older (12 & 14), but we have lived here for 5 years now and really love the area. There is so much to do localy, and of course Mainz, Heidelberg, K-town, etc...are all just a 20-30 minute drive away.

Speaking of Kaiserslautern, you might want to take the kids to DinoLand. Also, there is also a fantastic movie theater in Landstuhl just past K-town that plays first run movies in English.

Locally we have lots of hiking on the Donnersberg.

Our first 3 years we lived in Orbis (boring), but recently purchased a home in Kibo itself and really love being walking distance to the old town, the pubs, the fests, etc...

Anyway, shoot me an email and I'll see if I can't do a better job of answer your questions. Or, you can call me at work at 06134 5678 11. I work for Pentagon Car Sales, selling BMW's to the U.S. military overseas. I assume you or your husband work for Borg Warner, so don't worry, I won't be trying to sell you a car.

You can email me directly at asbachnate@hotmail.com or nathan.barnes@pentagoncarsales.com.

BTW, this Tuesday is St Patricks Day, so if you have time stop by the Irish Pub (Weisse Ross). I'll be there with my wife and quite a few others. Since my Germany is awful, you'll have an easy time picking the one table out that's speaking English.

Cheers,

Nate

yabadoo is about 25 minutes from you, but worth the trip! my kids love the activity and the food. Yabadoo

i hear dinosaur park is great, too. i'm hoping to take my dinosaur obsessed children there before the baby is born or before we move to Heidelberg.

there are great swimming facilities in Ramstein and Landstuhl. Probably in you area, too.

my son's father takes my son to Kibo when he comes to RLP and he takes him to a kid park there. if i have a chance to talk to him this week, i'll let you know where it is and maybe other things to do in your area.

good luck!

Thanks for all of the tips!

Hello!

Our kids enjoy riding the Stumpfwaldbahn that goes between Ramsen and Eiswoog. It is a nice, small-gague railroad that runs on Sundays and holidays from May 1st through October 3rd each year. On particular days they use steam engines (as opposed to the diesels). It makes for a fun outing when the weather is nice, and it's not very expensive (4.50€ round trip for adults, children 3-12 3.50€, under three free).

In Kirchheimbolanden, there's always the pool!

Greetings from nearby Ober-Flörsheim

Hello and Welcome to Donnersbergkries.

I live in a village near Kircheimbolanden, moved here seven years ago. The town of Eisenberg has a fantastic outdoor swimming pool. It sits in a park like area and has four separate pools. A small kiddie pool, a pool about three to four feet deep with lots of play stuff, a fantastic slide, a regular pool for swimming laps, and a diving pool that is about twenty feet deep and has not just diving boards but a diving tower with a 5 meter, 7.5 meter, and 9 meter. I have jumped off the 5 meter but have not yet braved the 7.5 meter and would probably die of a heart attack if I jumped off the 9 meter. It is a great place to spend an afternoon. They have a snack bar where you can purchase bratwurst, hamburgers, fries, drinks, chips, candy, etc. Also, an ice cream truck is parked there all day. They also have ping-pong, a giant chess board, and beach volleyball.
