Recipe: Chicago style deep dish pizza

Death by Cheese

So I was reminiscing with another mofo about Chicago style deep dish pizza. A bit hard to explain but its essentially super thick pizza stuffed full with sauce, cheese and fixings (i myself prefer sausage and mushrooms), sauce and more cheese on top and held together by crispy bottom and crust.

Its absolutely not easy on the waist and not even pretty to look at but its heaven in your mouth. And yes I know all the jokes that could be inserted here. I should wash yer mouths out ye filthy sailors. Anyhoo, its gooey, warm and fiiling beyond belief...I havent come across many people that can eat more than two slices at a sitting.

So for all you midwest peeps and chicago style pizza lovers missing that heart attack wrapped in cheese served on a platter good times, check out the recipes on Pizza Making.com

Let me know how they turn out eh wink.gif

PS: I forgot to add my usual disclaimer re I am shite in the kitchen and all that. Havent tried the recipe myself but a friend (well MIA friend, hes since disappeared since marrying that girl he used to make fun of all the time...but I think we all got at least one of those blokes in our rolodexes), swears by the papa dels recipe. And seeing as he ordered the pizza once a week for at least 6 years, Id say hed know what hes going on about. Unlike me just now... wink.gif

hmmm...I'm thinking about tryng that recipe! The one for Papa dels pizza, of course, since that is the best chicago style pizza espically since it's from Champaign!

My sister spent a year in Champaign on a university exchange. She said that pizza was great (but that was about the only thing...).
I'll send her the recipe though - thanks!

not that this is *entirely* relevant, but the calzone I ordered for lunch today had hard boiled eggs in it. ugggghhh. (swell of nausea just thinking about it. and no, shockingly, it did not have kernels of corn in it...).

Jml, you just made my day!

I think I miss deep dish pizza more than anything else. It's just not pizza if you can eat it all in one sitting.

Funny, we were just discussing Chicago style pizza Saturday night.
I think I will have to make one or two now. I have eaten a whole one once, but that was back in the Navy days when I was stationed at Great Mistakes (Lakes), Ill when I was fit as a fiddle and wasn't allowed to keep on the extra pounds. I dare say that I could not do that now, but I think that I will try very soon. wink.gif

grrrr. First you need to bring it up on Saturday night, and now you need to remind me. I had forgotten that conversation and was happy leaving it that way!

Hahaha did you guys rename "Quiche" the same day you invented "freedom fries"?

“DYO deep dish pizza night out“ would be a good idea. rolleyes.gif
Dough Recipe sounds not that difficult to make and people can bring along all the stuff they want to see on their pizza.

@KzA probably the same day we re-appropriated the word "douche" for other purposes. wink.gif

xoxxxo peeps...i loves you all especially if you´re stuffed with sausage, mushrooms and cheese.

If you´re into Chicago style pizza then the restaurant chain "Numero Unos" should ring a bell. I will never forget their seafood pizza. Same philosophy as the cheese one above, but with seafood -crab, shrimp, mussels etc. Yummy!

Quiche = light, fluffy, egg based pie that is "so european" and can often cause people to question the masclinity of a man who is eating said thing. can be eaten for breakfast or lunch without violating a diet.

Chicago Style Deepdish Pizza = pizza on steroids with extra thick dough formed into a resevoir in which all kinds of tasty, heavy, fattening and oh so delicous things can be piled. best eaten for dinner with beer and in the company of working class, blue collar guys with names like Nick, Stan, and Joe. can be lethal if served for breakfast.

freedom fries = assinine populous political posturing.
