btw, the rumour that BMW are pulling out of F1 is true. The press conference later this morning will confirm this.
Allershausen
I'd imagine that if they do and it does seem likely, then Toyota will be the next to go.
Allershausen
Well, it has been confirmed!

Given OG works for BMW I kind of think it was before;-)
Timmeh
Well that sucks, I like having big name manufacturers in the series. I hope this grid vacancy allows ProDrive /Aston Martin or another to be on the grid next year.
On to better news; it looks like Massa can see out of his damaged eye and is likely to walk out of the hospital in a week or two. Still unsure as to whether he will be able to race again or not.

I wasn't really doubting him!

which begs the question might we see Kubica in a Ferrari for the rest of the season and then as a potential partner for Alonso next year?

Ok, I'm looking on the bad side for Massa for next year, but I don't think we'll see him back this season.
Allershausen
BMW are pulling out at the end of the season so Kubica would not be available to drive for Ferrari. Maybe they'll let Valentino Rossi have a go!
I wonder if Sauber will continue à la Brawn?
Owain Glyndwr
To be honest, I am not certain myself whether BMW pulling out will mean the end for Sauber or if Sauber will be sold as a going concern and remain on the grid for next year. My guess is that Sauber will continue, just without BMW as owner and supplier.

Has anyone ever come back from an injury that severe?

Not sure that the Doctors would be keen on it because I seem to remember that epilepsy is a possible complication after brain trauma?
Allershausen
Well Niki Lauda and Mika Häkkinen both came back from life threatening injuries, but I can't remember anyone coming back from severe brain injuries. It's a real shame for him, he's a good driver and comes across as a nice guy too.

BBC reports that Schuey WILL be back for the European GP...
AncientBrit
Here's what the Beeb says:

Michael Schumacher will make a shock return to Formula 1 to replace injured Ferrari driver Felipe Massa, news agencies are reporting. The seven-time world champion retired at the end of 2006 but has agreed to drive at the European Grand Prix. ... Schumacher has been a team advisor but on 23 August will race an F1 car for the first time since April 2008.
If the news turns out to be true, I for one will be hoping that Schumacher will be effortlessly left behind in a cloud of dust by the current bunch of drivers. I couldn't stand him at the best of times. And there are better drivers around to stand in for Massa
Pas
Incredible.

Why do that? I guess for the sport it will generate a lot of interest but seems a silly move for him personally.
Timmeh
I love it that he's gonna be back, awesome. I agree witht Pas though, I think it's a bad move for him, he's more likely than not gonna get his ass handed to him now. If he can prove me wrong, I will be mightily impressed.
