Ok, continuing the evergrowing unemployment threads...

In a nutshell, what documents will I need to take to the Arbeitsamt when I register?

1) Passport (I'm an EU citizen)
2) termination letter
3) previous Abrechnung??
4) taxation identification number doc??
5) ???

I know this info must be listed somewhere, but after 30 minutes of TT searching, I can't find it...
Thanks in advance.

They will want to see proof that you are covered by health insurance. If you have been privately insured for less than 5 years they won't pay the premiums so you'll have to sign up with a public insurer. If you're already publicly insured ask for a letter you can show the arbeitsamt. You won't get any money until they see proof.

Sure but they'll pay your premium with a public insurer...

So, I have a question. I apologise for not having been able to find the answer on this forum. I did use the search function etc, but still didn't find it:

I am moving to Berlin for a new job (so no unemployment benefits for me! :-) ). My partner is coming with me though and I wonder whether it will be possible for him to sign up for unemployment benefits. He is currently still employed in Italy, on a temporary contract which runs out just before he leaves (which is why he leaves when he leaves). So now my questions are:
- Does his Italian working history contribute to his German eligibility to receive unemployment benefits?
- What kind of proof would he need of his working history in Italy/Europe? (this question is obviously conditional on the answer to the first question being yes)
- Would he need some sort of proof that his contract in Italy was temporary and is not being renewed? (which is sort of by choice)

Thanks a lot and I apologise for not being able to find the answers myself...

Thanks, RainyDays. The link shows:

6. Arbeitsnachweise (evtl. Gesellen/Facharbeiterbrief, Führerschein, Gesundheitspaß etc.)
7. falls schon vorhanden, die vom Arbeitgeber ausgefüllte Arbeitsbescheinigung.

As someone who might be going through this later in the year (hopefully not, but no harm in planning for the worst), could I ask a couple of questions, please:

a. Kündigung? I'm a contractor at a company here. I can show contracts, evidence of work, etc, but what exactly will a Kündigung look like? I doubt my company will give this to me automatically, and I will have to ask for it.

b. Sozialversicherungsausweis? uh oh, I thought I had all my papers in order, but I don't have this one as far as I know. Any ideas if it is 100% necessary and/or how to get one?

Many thanks.

... if you do not have a Sozialversicherungsausweis, and are a Freiberufler or Selbständig, how did you pay into the unemployment insurance you're planning to claim? (hint: you probably didn't, you're going straight to the Jobcenter instead of the Arbeitsagentur).

Good question. I was previously employed by a UK company but worked in Germany so had to pay German tax. My tax returns show I paid the freiwillige Arbeitslosvericherungen for 2 years (out of the last three). I don´t know if this will help me. We shall see.

I have a question regarding unemployment. I am getting laid off from my German Employer. They are offering me to terminate my own contract earlire (I have a 3 month notification period on my contract) which they will save some money and give me some more money. My question is that if I terminate myself from the company, am I still eligible to get unemployment benefits? Or do I loose the right to get unemployment benefit if I quit myself?

I have asked my HR Director and he said I don't get unemployment benefit in Germany if I quit my job. However, another friend of mine told me otherwise. I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge in this field.

Thanks!

If your boyfriend gets unemployment benefit in Italy after being laid off, he might be entitled to transfer this to Germany for a few months. He should check with his local dole office for terms and conditions. It's a standard EU thing, there is more info on the eures website.

HR director is probably right. If you terminate the contract, the Arbeitsamt might not pay you for the first 3 months (or whatever) of your unemployment.

I'd love to hear this explained...

Here you go: Do I get unemployment if I terminate my contract?
In other words, he also started a new thread to ask the same question.
