With all the talk about the Holacaust Memorial day i feel it's time i learned more about what happened in Munich at the begining of the war. i plan on doing one of 'the original munich walks' which is operated by 'radius tours and bikes'. The tour starts from Hauptbanhof at 11:30 on Sunday. The cost is 13.20 USD (i cant find a conversion at the moment).
The tour last 2.5 hrs
Anyway if anyone else would be intrested in coming along let me know.
Tour(Please do not start any war banter on this thread)

13.20 USD is around 10€, but beware of bullshit, I know of an American that went on a "Third Reich" tour of Munich, and they told him incorrect dates and locations. They specifically told him the wrong side of the Feldhernhalle, where the Nazi's were killed in the Putsch.

personally i didn't think the tour was worth it. we were just led around and told, now over there is where hitler made his speeches, and over there is where he was arrested, and here was a big protest. granted for a newbie to munich, it is a way to get to know some parts of munich and walk around a bit, but we only saw buildings. *yawn*
if you want info, read "the rise and fall of the third reich" instead.

Is there any tours people would recommend? Or a guide book which specialises it instead. I havent got time to read a 'proper thick book' at the moment!

@chewy - If there is a recommended tour then I would like to join if possible. When younger I was a big WWII buff and it was one of the big reasons I came to Munich. I've also wanted to read more books here written by Germans with their perspective (translated).

If you go to Königsplatz, there is this sign... which tells you about all the Nazi era buildings.

There is loads of goodies to be found in Munich if you keep your eyes open...

The building used to be the Oberluftcommandobau or something similar. Hence the Stahlhelm on the building.

Its now the Landesvermessungsamt on Prinzregentstr.
Personally, the de-Nazified Eagle on the Finanzamt is my favourite...

I spotted a really cool eagle on the way to the Olympic park the other day, but I didnt have my camera with me. So I will have to wait, till next week.

chewy mrs the jaarvi has my archtecture guide to munich. its written in german and english and is rather good. if she could give you it, you could view things at your own pleasure. few tours of munich done in english are ging to give you the depth that somebody of your curiosity requires. if you get the book tell me.

one of my favourites - look up at the ceiling in the Hofbräuhaus. The bavarian flags are shaped into blue and white swastikas.

I took the Third Reich tour last year and learned a lot from it. The guide was a native German, which I thought was very important -- I wanted to hear about it from a German's perspective, not a expat's. I took the tour to Dachau with him that same afternoon.
I guess it depends on the tour guide.

It was 'radius tours and bikes' -- the same one. They probably have many different guides. The fellow who led my tour spends the winters in Australia and summers in Munich. I went mid-March 2004, so you could call and ask when he'll be back and specifically ask to be part of his group.
