Fancy a bit of culture (well kind of).
I'm planning on going to see The Phantom of the Opera at Mathaeser Cinema (English) on Friday 28th (22:50), i saw this musical when i was a teenager and havn't seen one that compares since. The is also ones of those films that must be seen in the cinema and won't compare on DVD / tele.
If anyone else wants to come along pleae let me know. Will try to book the tickets by wed / thursday next week.

For cinema or musical ? Highly recommend seeing it in the theatre ! Then again I could probably recommend quite a few for the theatre, don't know if they are still on though.

I've seen the show a couple of times. Tried to get tickets for Jan or Feb this year in Lundinium but no go.
Parents went to see the movie the other night and said it was excellent. I think his words were "very powerful and a must for anyone who loves the show".
We shall see.

@ Keydeck - If you are ever in London, there is that place on the entrance to Leicester Sq where you can buy last minute cheap theatre tickets, bit of a lottery, but if you are there early enough, its not usually a problem. I do that a lot, as its sometimes a last spur of the minute decision.

yep, Chewy is right.
The wine tasting starts at 7 so you and I can go to the cinema at 10.30 (I live 10 mins away), and anyone who doesn't want to come with us can just head into town for a drink.
Great idea! But please wake me if I snore in the Kino after all that red wine!

Nevertheless, I'd like to come along and see it too.

We'll bring the leftovers from the wine tasting to help sweeten the music..

I was meant to be going to the wine tasting, but have some people round viewing the flat, so had to cancel. Can still make this though

So what's the plan to meet? I should be free from 9pm. Is there anywhere near to go for a drink first, or shall we all just meet at the cinema? What's the plan Hamster?

sorry KK. missed your post and have been busy in work up-to-now! OK, I'm going to head to twisted for about 8 that way its only a short u-bahn to hauptbahnhof and the cinema. Either meet up there or in the cinema just before (around the main drink /food purchasing area).
See you all later.

Actually, it was the big loud orchestrations that kept going through my head, not so much stuff like "Theeeeeeeeee PHAAAAAAAAANTOM of the opera is heeeeeeere, insiiiiiiiiide your miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiind".
P.S. Tsk tsk to all the people who said they were going to come and left Eric the Hamster with four unused tickets.

Too bad, if I didn't have other plans I would have joined. I have seen it already in the US but I love Andrew Lloyd Weber musicals. Great show.

The style of the movie reminded me a lot of the film version of evita. Each as true to the musical version as possible, and stunningly made. Huge sets and budgets, and not a huge amount of computer generated effects
Suppose one thing we do miss out on here in munich is some of the better quality musicals that are available in London. Yes we got the opera and ballet but the stuff passing throught the
Deutsches Theater is normally so butchered. I am dreading heading off to see

Hear for Musicals, Stuttgart is the best place. I miss not going to the theatre and seeing a musical every now and then.

Stuttgart great for musicals as the entire building done up in the style of the musical running at the time. So all bar staff, ushers etc in costume with theme drinks.
SI-Centrum Stuttgart is the place. Currently on is "Mamma Mia" and starting soon is "Elizabeth - the true story of Sissi". I saw "Tanz der Vampire" and "42nd Street" there and it is next door to the fabulous Schwabenquelle (my favourite sauna park evah).
