Trying something new

I love The Arc and the TwBa but Im dying to go out and try something new! tongue.gif I know that there are a couple others out there who would like to do the same. So I am thinking around 7 or 8 tomorrow night, need some suggestions for where and anyone who wants to come can come!

Good idea?? unsure.gif
JoolyBooly
Café Schwabing is nice, or Juleps next to Ostbahnhof. Next to Juleps are also Escobar and Bar lisbon, they are nice too. Also a good tapas bar. Or Paros, a great greek place, or Piatsa (greek, Leopoldstrasse).

Are you talking dinner or just drinks?
HollyGolightly
Im talking anything. I want to go out and have fun...you know what I mean. Havent been anywhere new in...FOREVER. Maybe can talk Mnbangura into going too...would you be including yourself Jooly??
chewy
I'd be intrested, and i have a friend staying this weekend as well

HollyGolightly
What about this place called Harpers und Queens...its on Sedlinger Str OR I didnt try the Havana Club but I think someone said it was ok... OR Buena Vista Tankstelle in Glockengach... Any of these sound good??
Keydeck
Just my 2c. Harpers is a bit up its own arse. Wear stylish clothes, spend your time people watching and drink overpriced cocktails or bottles of Heineken. Havana Club used to be great fun and the cocktails top notch but I've not been in a few years so don't know know. Actually I thought they'd closed, shows how out of touch I am. Don't know t'other one you mentioned.

If your group will consist of mostly beer drinkers then I'd probably avoid the first two you mentioned.
HollyGolightly
Thanks for the help! Much appreciated!
Inflatablewoman
Havana Club was open a few months back. Great cocktails, but a bit pricey if your just trying to get drunk. If you're in it for quality then worth a go, the place is small but gives a nice cozy feel. Deff worth a look at least once.
Inflatablewoman
I dont think I have ever seen barschwein mentioned on Toytown, http://www.barschwein.de/. It's just around the corner from GMs and is VERY cheap. The decor is red. smile.gif You get given a card on entrance and every drink has a category, then the waitress just marks a row when you have picked. You pay up at the end. If you loose your card, then you have to pay 50€. Went there on my own one night, seemed like a young student type vibe with lots of drinkers in residence. Highly recommended if your up for drinking. I think a helles came in a 2.20€. Cheap cheap cheap.
HollyGolightly
Wait IW you have told me about this place before. Maybe I want to go there...I just dont really like GM and dont want to go to the same ol...would anyone else be interested in going there??
JoolyBooly
sounds good. If not Nicole you're spot on with Buena Vista Tankstelle in Glockengach... it's lovely. Or Cohibar just off Maximilianstrasse, gets very full so get there early.

I really don't know what i'm doing yet. Supposed to be skiing then going to GM's but I have managed to get sick for the 4th time in 4 weeks! So now I have 'flu mad.gif and really should have a quiet day sorting out my flat before my move...

If you are up for just wandering around, and trying really new stuff (for you). If you get off the U-Bahn at Giselastrasse, then either side of Leopoldstr are plenty of Rest/Cocktail bars. Work your way up towards Muenchener Frieheit, and there are more bars than you can shake a stick at. You're bound to find a favourite, among them. If worse comes to worse, you can always end up at GMs and be sure of a big HELLO! smile.gif
HollyGolightly
JB honey...what the hell is wrong with you! ohmy.gif Who are you hanging out with that keeps getting you sick! How can your body possible put up with the flu?? Have you been able to eat at all this month!!! Agreed staying home might be best for you...but if you feel up to it... tongue.gif (((Jooly))) big hug...get better!
JoolyBooly
oh, eating and drinking is never a problem... just working! rolleyes.gif
and I've been hanging out with TT, that explains everything...

Hi
a lot of the bars listed above are nice, I'd also recommend Bobolovsky's near Münchner Freiheit (great cocktails, always busy, probably the best burger in town - sorry Hazza), or simply going to Gärtnerplatz and having a wander about. I was in a great dive-y bar with no name somewhere near there last week, kind of place which you'd only find after a few beverages *cough*
You could also try Zum Jennerwein or Schwabinger 7, but I don't know if that is your scene. I can do Schicki but would rather do fun and these are grungy fun.
Master's Home might also be worth a shot, 3 Gröschenkeller (where some are going tonight) is a great bar but can get crowded (it is based on the "Three penny opera" by Berthold Brecht, the rooms are done up like scenes from the piece).
Near to that there is also Wirtshaus in der Au but you want drinking not eating so...
Where I would not recommend is Haus Der 111 Biere. Not unless you want to be transported back into the 1980s (so 3 Lions this might be your dream bar? wink.gif ). Half the beers are not in stock and if you land here, you must be drunk already ha ha. Schwabinger Podium is around the corner and that's a real, old-fashioned Bavarian rock pub, often with live music and where I tend to watch Bayern play football on the telly.
You could also consider one of the brewery bars such as the Augustiner Bräustube on Landsberger. Always busy, always fun.
Have a great evening whereever you go!
Katrina
HollyGolightly
Thanks Katrina! They all sound great...just have to decide...
Eric the Hamster
i would recommend cafe voila in Haidhausen, nornally good atmosphere, good drinks and the crowd is quite young

other recommendations
Tresznjewskiwhich is reasonably near the arc
Leo's Lounge (Rosenheimer Str, near ostbahnhof)

or you could always join the rest of Toytown at one of the old TT haunts (Guenther Murphys)
JoolyBooly
true, Café Vola is nice, Tresznjewski is supposed to be very good, Bobolovsky's has great salads...

you see! we need to get away from the "mafia" bars and get out to different places more! Great idea, Nicole!
Ravski
I like cafe Viola too plus the mexican place was round the corner
Katrina
I like Tresznjewski because of the huge bowl of free Haribo in there. I love Haribo.
Need to also mention Neuhausen places such as Big Easy, Ysenegger, Sappralotts, Barbaree... otherwise I'll get a slap for not promoting Neuhausen ha ha
Reizbar in Schwabing can be nice when not too full, I tend to prefer the more studenty Hexenkessel around the corner.
And another one of my favourites is the X Club. It is scummy, alternative and never the same twice but I love it.

Certainly very true. They actually have never changed the decor in that place. I think you should all go to Schwabinger 7. Its well classy.
JoolyBooly
oooh, been there, I'm sure. There's a coat wrack with a sign above saying "don't leave your coat here, it'll get nicked"... go on, call me a snob.. happy.gif
Katrina
Must be why I like Schwabinger 7 then, don! wink.gif
randy
Last time I ate at Tresznjewski, at 5AM, the food was awful. dry.gif

Actually a fun bar, though very schicky-micky is Eat The Rich. Certainly beautiful people, and lots of up-close contact is made.

Nearby there is Bar Triana, with a much nicer and cooler atmosphere. Really enjoy this place.

There are plenty of good bars in the neighborhood of Sax, as well.
Eric the Hamster
i don't know these places that don't have top quality chefs at 5am, whats the world coming to
randy
Well, I wasn't expecting fois gras with steamed artichoke hearts, man; but my office semmelmann could've beaten Tresznjewski's offerings by a mile.
Eric the Hamster
smile.gif

Edit - jut thought of a come back , but took a while -

- but i bet he/she wouldn't be happy to be sitting around the office until 5 waiting for you

- actually reading that, doesn't sound as funny as i first thought, oh well
Jules Winnfield
I had a cheeseburger for lunch at Tresznjewski's a couple of weeks ago and it was really tasty...
Showem
The food at Tresz is decent, in my opinion. Breakfasts are huge too. I don't head there very often late at night unless guests want a final beer after a night out or something, as home is 50m away. But if a night out was planned there, I would advise reserving, making sure that you reserve enough space, and I would happily go there.
JoolyBooly
yeah i heard the brekafasts are the speciality.. maybe we should re-form the brunch club, we started doing loads in summer then it fizzled out
HollyGolightly
Woke up sick as a dog...wont even make it out tonight...but will write down EVERY suggestion and have an incredibly busy weekends from now on! Thanks for all the help guys! tongue.gif
Showem
You don't have wait for the weekends, Tresz is open everyday from 8am to 4am and serves food until 3am.

Cafe Puck does great brunches/breakfasts.
Will never again go into Eat the Rich, not even for money. Awful place.
Topsy
isn't cafe atlas the place with the rude and snooty waiting staff?
or am I thinking of somewhere else?
potterstreet
staff at cafe atlas is completely unskilled, IMHO. like the atmosphere of the place, but hell could freeze over while you wait for your food. waitstaff is utterly indifferent too. doesn't seem to stop anyone though, it's always mobbed!
flogger
quite.
tis always mobbed coz its owned by some hasbeen actress and people think its in to be seen here despite the ordinary wares on offer..just like its in to stand outside some ragshop on maximilianstr freezing your tits off in the snow waiting for a sight of a miniature yorkshire terrier.
