Frankly this is replusive and even worse thrown in a beer but I found myself almost forced to drink several last year, and will probably do the same when I'm skiing again next.
I think it's an Austrian 'rum'.
Anyone else have any feedback from it? You can even buy it in Munich airport.

I use this as the top layer in B52 shooters. I actually drank loads of it neat on my birthday the other week, and ended up doing some pretty stupid behavior! Dangerous stuff!

This stuff is great for preserving blackberries, gooseberries etc. Wash them and put them into a glass jar and fill it up with Stroh Rum. you have to keep topping it up with rum as the fruit soaks up the alcohol. They last for ages plus you have a great source of vitamin A and C. Well not really but alcoholic blackberries are a great idea.

I don't touch the stuff. Why? Firstly it is grim. Secondly because
Stroh is apparently a by-product of paper production. So basically you are drinking industrial waste.

Ive had a bottle sitting in my flat for over a year now. Its ok with coke, but only really got much use for boosting the glühwein at xmas time

Its one of the most disgusting substances masquerading as an alcoholic beverage that I have ever had the misfortune to drink. As a drink it fails, and I cannot see its offensive flavour having any culinary use whatsover either.
Sort of drink invented by bunch of twats who not only do not have their own language, but choose to copy the most disgusting one that they can find. Foul mouthed bastards, need their mouths washing out with, well, maybe some stroh 80...

Satan's urine. Just vile. I got pissed on the stuff on a school ski trip when I was 14 and even the smell turns my stomach to this day.

Stroh Rum is certainly not for drinking. If you want a really strong rum, try
Captain Morgan - 73% should be enough for anyone

I use Captain Morgan 73% in my Christmas cakes and mincemeat. Top gear that is.

Katrina, I think you've got your paper production processes backwards: paper can be made from rum production waste. Rum is made from sugar, and you can
use the pressed-out sugar cane to make paper.

But I like the idea that it is chemical waste. Certainly tastes that way!

The label on the bottle we've got at home mentions "aroma" as ingredient. Somehow proves the toxic waste theory.
Do you have any food items at home that don't have "aroma" as an ingredient? Hmm? "natural and artificial flavors"?

I always thought the liquors were the last edible things in my kitchen without.

I just drank this stuff once - pure, straight from the bottle - when being in Finland and hanging around with some Finnish guys. I didn't want to try it, but they were teasing me (Don't be a sissy!) until I finally took a few sips. Awful stuff - it almost made me puke
The Finns liked it though - well, they like any kind of liquid as long as there's alcohol in it

And they seem to have iron stomachs when it comes to drinking booze.

Ohhh, don't get me started on the nasty things Finns drink. Too late!
1. A liqueur blacker than oil and salty as hell.
2. Some sort of nasty liquid that you are supposed to swallow with the minnow that also came in the glass. They claimed it was traditional, but I think they put them in there to see how many stomachs they could turn that Sunday morning.
Only drink the beer and the vodka and you will have a great time in Finnland.

well well...
admittedly, us finns are widely admired for our drinking stamina...
surprisingly, the dubious black liquid you mentioned has been a winner with all of my foreign friends so i melt a few bottles now and again for distribution
otherwise, finland is full of alcoholic delights that are well worth a try next time you're over...
when in rome...
when in helsinki, drink yourself silly...
and have a great weekend!
