If you are new in Munich, or live in Munich and are new to this forum, feel free to post a message here to introduce yourself to the rest of the TT community.

Do not, however, ask your newbie questions here about life in Munich. Nobody will answer them.

If you have basic questions like

  • How do I find an apartment to rent?
  • Which are the best bars/nightclubs/restaurants?
  • How do I get English-language TV?
  • Which is the best district to live in?
  • Where are the best schools for learning German?
  • How do I meet people?
  • Or one of the other multitude of questions that all newcomers ask...
...then use the search function. All these questions and more have been asked and answered many times over already. Feel free to post to one of the existing threads to ask for updates. Do not, however, start a new thread about one of these topics that has already been covered a thousand times - it is tiring for the regular readers of this board and they won't help you.

If you're looking to meet people, or want to know what's going on, see the Munich meet ups section as well as the Munich events calendar.

Also note, TT is not a "contacts board". Do not make a post like "Hi, I'm new in town, I like cinema and clubbing, if anyone wants to go out for a drink let me know". This post will not work. Nobody will contact you. If you want to meet people you need to be proactive and attend one of the events. Newcomers are always welcome to show up. Make sure you post a reply to the event discussion first though, to let people know you are coming.

For a humorous look at the kind of stupid questions that newcomers ask, and the questions you should be avoiding, see the pleeeze help me thread.

Moved to Munich last month and am getting bored with hanging out with my boyfriend and his friends. Would like have my own group of friends who I can connect with. There must be people out there like me...

Hi all,

well, I am German. However, I have been attending several events of TT so far and really liked them. I have been really busy the last months at work, many people I know have left Munich recently, and due to work there wasn't much time to meet new people. So, I like these social events and meeting new people and working on my English.

I am currently trying to learn Italian and Russian. Do any "Stammtische" for these languages exist? I have only found other ones (Spanish, French,...). If not what about "founding" one?

A Russian language Stammtisch sounds great! I've been studying Russian for a year at uni and could definitely use some practice.

I have about the same experience with Russian. I study it in my spare time. However, I definitely need more practise. Perhaps we can start one (if none exists).

Hey everyone!

My name is Kate. I'm a 19-yr-old college student coming to Munich for the summer to live with a friend. I took 4 years of German in high school and hope to put my second language back into practice for the two months I'm here. I hope to perhaps come over to LMU or another school here in the fall, if I'm super lucky ;-) I enjoy cooking (and eating just about any style cuisine!), reading, coffee, photography and art, cute animals (sadly leaving behind two precious Meerschweinchen!), and traveling. I hope to make some friends whilst in Munich, cause no one wants to be in a foreign country alone, so don't feel shy about saying, "Hey, this Kate girl sounds awesome! I'll ask her to get coffee/eat korean food/help me walk my dogs/go urban kayaking/etc..." Because you're right. So look out for me, I'll be arriving June 3, ready to get the most out of my summer! :-)

I do not care much for Houston but welcome to Munich. If you are in Houston still enjoy the last of good tex mex food.

I love to travel a lot on weekends.

Looking forward to meet some new friends.

Hello/Hallo etc

Ok, so I'm desperately trying to stay away from the whole, "Hey guys!! I'm new in town" speil but the very fact I'm writing this means it cannot be avoided...I'll try and make it as quick as possible, kind of like ripping a plaster off in one foul swoop...or something like that??

Anyway, my name is Karen O'Mahony and I moved to Munich two weeks ago. I'm currently living in Ebersberg with my aunt and uncle while I look for my own place in the city.

As nice as it is having family here to look after me (and cook for me!) living with them has meant I haven't been able to meet anyone, so here I am.

I'm 24 and have just moved over from London where I lived for five years and went to uni. I absolutely love London but got offered a job here and thought "why not!!"

I have recently discovered one of my favorite Dj's is playing here on the 19th June in Die Registratur and I 'd really like someone to go with...anyone interested??? (I know I'm breaking some sort of newbie rule by asking that but I couldn't find a section/forum about clubbing. -am i being blind?)

Looking forward to hearing back from (is it presumptuous to say all?) all of you!!

Karen.

It seems you've answered your own question.

Welcome to Toytown.
