I came across this Forum by chance - someone linked to my weblog and google kindly provided a trackback here. My name is Adam and I've been living in northern Germany, near Bremen but in a small town not on the list provided here, since quitting the army back in 1995. I am a very active person - especially in this town - who enjoys literature, history and freemasonry as well as good and interesting discussion. Perhaps there's something in there which causes a spark, who knows.

Hey...
My name's Sarah, and I'm moving to Bremen now in the next few days. I was wondering if there were people on this forum in a similar situation. (I'm new to this game!)
Maybe I could get some advice on house finding, on living... good places to go... places to avoid... local knowledge,, etc...
Or if there are people about Bremen who are interested in hooking up for a cheeky pint, let me know too.
Cheers!

Hi Adam,

My name is Alyson and I am currently living in Hoya. I moved here for work in January and just stumbled upon your message today and noticed that it says you are in Hoya too.

It would be great to meet up with another english speaker. I, too, love the outdoors, I work with horses, I'm a horse trainer actually.

tchoos,
Alyson.

Hoya - my son spend a week on the Hoya airfield a couple of years ago at our club's Summer flying camp...
Weather wasn't so good & lots of mosquitos....

Well, it's good to know that someone else has heard of Hoya! The town often seems to be a little clique all of its own with occasional visitors but few who admit it in public! I'd be more than happy to meet up with anyone who either lives here or who is visiting, albeit my appointment book is usually fairly full much of the time, and I seem to spend a great deal of time not being here. I live across from the Filmhof in Hoya.

Hi guys... I'm Alex from Mexico, and I'm moving to Bremen to attend Jacobs U. for a few months... Could you please give me an advise about how to find a room/apartment for rent?? A homepage or blog where people post adverts for rentals...
Thanks in advance. ALEX

Hi all

Just thought I would leave a message aswell. Im moving to the Bremen/Oldenburg area in two weeks. Not sure exactly where to yet because it will be wherever I can get a job. I am moving to study but need a job to keep me afloat.

If there are any events of meetups being organised I would love to hear about them.

Hi - Im an English musician who has been living in Germany now for nearly 30 years - I currently live in a small village called Worpswede (The kunstlerdorf - Artists village) - close to Bremen - where we have a great venue called The Musichall - many bands from UK play here - for example Manfred Mann,Wishbone Ash, Ten Years after, also recently from USA Al Dimeola, Johnny Winter, Tony Joe White, - well instead of going on take a look at the website http://www.musichall-worpswede.de/ - Worpswede is located about half an hours drive from Bremen - I also run a music session in the pub in the Musichall every Thursday night - We are on a summer break right now but we start again in the middle of September. see http://www.worpsweder-session.de - I have my own concert in the Musichall on 11 September (yes 9/11) and have some special guests with me. I also play regularly around North Germany - http://www.steve-westaway.com - I used to work in the Space business in Bremen for 25 years or so - hence the reason I'm in Germany. I encountered Toytown a while back but I thought - well maybe its time to say hello - If you are in Bremen or close by then please check us out. My email address info@steve-westaway.com
All the best

Hello all, i have recently arrived from Scotland and am now living around am Brill. So far i am really enjoying it here, but missing some home comforts, i would be really grateful if anyone could advise where i could get some British food for home "Cooking". Also if anyone could recommend a decent curry house, my taste buds would be highly pleased.

Also does anyone know if/where/when i can find movies at the cinema in English?

Don't suppose there is anyone from the rugby club on here either is there?

Thanks in advance!

For Cinema you want the cinemaxX kino 4.

Haven't found anywhere specific for Brit food yet, but Lestra in Horn is a nice supermarket with a wide range of good ingredients (Not the cheapest place in town though).

Haven't been out for a Curry yet but google seems to find this place

Post if it's any good.

Google also shows this rugby club http://www.rugby-bremen.de/

For English foods - try http://www.greatbritishfood.de/ - I have used it a couple of times and I had no problems
Also there is http://www.britannia-shop.de/home.html
http://www.english-shop.de/
https://ssl.webpack.de/www.foodfromhome.de/index.php?section=1&PHPSESSID=gbms6ihqk7bq7krnm9j71trhm7 ( I have no idea if it's good or bad)
Lestra is good but as said - expensive - You can also try Dodenhof in Posthausen and Karstadt.

cheers

I personally think the huge Real in Weserpark has a better selection than Dodi. Oh and online try www.allbritish.de. Michelle has a huge selection and is very helpful. Prices not too bad either, and she has a large selection of Christmas Puds.
