Hi,
I am German, but left Hamburg 20 years ago.
I have to return now with my daughter, who is 11 years old and visit in the moment a fantastic school in Wales ( one of the top 10 in UK)It is a highschool and she just loves it.
It makes my dicision very very diffecult to leave as eductaion is so important, but my job is calling Hamburg...
As the kids already in this age are already left to the Gymansium , Realschule or Hauptschule, I am not sure, how my daughter will be tested.
She speaks German is okay, but will she be able to keep up in a German school?
I have looked at the international school, but dont like the price and more important the feed backs from the parents.
I have an Interwiev for next year with the Helene-Lange Gymnasium as it it Bilingual, but worry, that she will be not good enough in her German.
It would be great, if anybody can give me advice.
Many thanks und frohe Weihnachten
Gisa

How about trying to find a way to let your daughter proceed with her schooling in Wales? Any British school might be better than German Gymnasium. Especially in Hamburg. Our daughter (16) is doing secondary school in Ireland, because she just woldn't fit into the German school system. It took us 8 years to realise, but everybody is happy now.
Tu deinem Kind das nicht an!

Hi Gisa,
we are moved to HH a couple of month ago. My daughter (9) was in an excellent British school since her third birthday. She is now nearly bilingual (were are german). We heard awful things about schools in HH. So we decided to give the bilingual Phorms School a chance. At the moment they have only year 1 to 4 but want to start with a so called Gymnasium with Abitur and IB.
The Phorms School HH has a British headmistress Ms Celia Budge. There is a website where you can get the phonenumber etc. You can write me for more information, if you like.
