As I'm sure a lot of you already know... but if not the story is here: Munich Winter Olympics Bid 2014. I know its still a good way off but, the feasability study is due soon.

QUOTE
The deadline for submission of bids for the 2014 Winter Games is July 2005. The International Olympic Committee will select the host city in 2007.

South Korea's Pyeongchang, which narrowly lost to Vancouver in the vote for the 2010 games, is the only confirmed candidate so far. Austria is expected to nominate Innsbruck or Salzburg, while Sweden plans a joint bid by Oestersund and Are. Sofia, Bulgaria, is another possible bidder.

where are they going to hold the downhill races? On the Olympiaberg, maybe biggrin.gif

If Munich is serious, they need to build a decent lift system in Garmisch. Without that they can forget it. I believe they recently applied for some other big ski event and were passed over because of the poor infrastructure.

Munich very nearly bid for the 2010 Winter games but never quite got their act together. Maybe this time around will be better.

And anyway, don't forget that the 2006 Winter Olympics will be held in Turin (Torino) in Northern Italy - only a 75 minute flight away from Munich.

No, those events would be in Garmisch.
Munich would take the figure skating and ice hockey for example.
Garmisch Partenkirchen would take alpine skiing and ski jumping (classic and part of Nordic Combination).
Ruhpolding would be for cross-country and biathlon, Inzell would take the speed skating, Königsee would be for luge and bob.
Rather cheekily, Königsee and Ruhpolding would probably be the places chosen if Salzburg gets the games (that's all been discussed long ago and was all over the local papers down there).

Hardly the Munich Games - Bavarian Games more like.

I can't name you one city that held every game of the Olympics within its city boundries.

It turns out that Munich will not be submitting a bid now after a decision last Friday.

QUOTE
German city of Munich has quitted submitting bid to host the 2014 Winter Olympics.
The decision was made Friday at a meeting attended by the German national Olympic committee chairman, Germany's minister for sports and other officials.

Last month, Germany's Olympic committee failed to endorse Munich's candidacy, claiming the city needed to prepare a more detailed proposal. The committee suggested a bid for the 2018 games.

Maybe 2018.

...and the 2014 winner is...

Sochi, Russia. A big victory for Vladimir Putin.

Salzburg and Pyeongchang, South Korea were both left disappointed. Salzburg's loss may open the doors for Munich's future bid.
