@UA you have to buy 2 beers as part of the entrance fee. You can't take any bags in. They make you pay to check them. But you probably wouldn't have a problem bringing it under your coat. However considering it's stronger beer and you ahve to buy 2, you may not need to bring any with you.

What? At Starkbierfest? Since when? The entrance fee I remember is like a mere 2 Euros, with no obligation to buy any beer. Have things radically changed since my last visit?

I was only there for the last 2 years but the entrance fee was closer to 10 euro (can't remember exact price), but it includes the price of 1 Maß, Starkbier or whatever you may be drinking. Not 2 drinks.

What time do most people get there? I know the table is for 12 but does it work getting there early? Similar to
Oktoberfest where you try and find a table with others?
Winegirl
Feb 22 2005, 1:37 am
OKay maybe it was one beer. I had 2 last year so I forgot the second one I paid for inside. As I recall it was about 10 € for the one beer and the entrance fee.
bubblylady
Feb 22 2005, 11:31 am
The entrance fee is a voucher for a mass, which is usually 7€.
But as it is a voucher for a beer, there is not really an entrance fee.
As our table is booked and safe till 2pm I dont think there is a point to meet earlier than 12pm, but feel free to have breakfast there

Any Newbies are more than welcome. 50 seats, first come first serve

Was there on Saturday. The entrance cost after 5:00 is 8.10 € and this includes one voucher for a beer or drink. Before 5:00 the entrance cost is 1 € and most drinks are 7.10 €. However, mineral water is around 5 €. After three masses (after having two halbes at the Augustiner am Dom), we ended up stumbling home after climbing a couple of fences after we became disoriented trying to find the U-bahn. Concerning the prospect of trying to smuggle in your own drinks, they forbid backpacks or bags of any kind and have a fairly formal security entrance, which may make it difficult, but not impossible.

@brokenm, how strict are they? Do they allow large purses? Also do they search the purses?
Showem
Mar 7 2005, 12:42 pm
They may ask you to open your purse upon entering or leaving. Then again, they might not. But I wouldn't count on it. Anything backpack like with have to be checked, big tote bags will be iffy.
Why do you want to bring more to lose?
Winegirl
Mar 7 2005, 12:44 pm
Yeah I probably won't bring one considering my history of bad luck at festivals here with my purse. I just wanted to be clear on the rules. Last year I went straight from work and had my backpack so they made me pay to check it. Just want to avoid that.
brokenm
Mar 7 2005, 2:06 pm
@Winegirl
I don't know how strict they are, but they had signs printed stating no Backpacks all around the entrance, and the entrance itself is a wire gate with a guard standing by the single file entrance where you buy the tickets. I did not have a backpack, and I wasn't there with any females or any males carrying a large purse, so I can't answer how strict they are in searching. But I was a bit surprised at how restricted the entrance was compared to the normal German "honor" system.

Tables are reserved under "Toytown" and my surname is Hagen.
Just ask for the reservation, if you dont know any TT's yet.
It's reserved for 50 ppl but I guess way more ppl are coming- at least they said they would (and bring freinds along).
usually they have the reservation pinned on the tables with name and time.
Is anybody meeting up beforehand at some Ubahn or tram stop. Would make it easier to meet.

I'm hoping to convince the rents to go to this... My family is here, but I can always play the "it's part of the culture I don't want to miss" card, and it will work with my mom... I'm hoping to convice my mother enough to stay for one before dragging my father off to the Alte Pinakothek ... hopefully i'll be there w/ my sister...
yeah i'll be there. Will aim for 12 so see you around 1.
Dont even know where it is? is it same place as okky fest?

I'm meeting up at Kolumbusplatz U-bahn station at 1pm with people. Anyone who wants to meet us there and attempt to find the place together is welcome. Particularly newbies who may be worried about finding TTer's is such huge hall. I'll be wearing my dirndl for those that haven't met me.

The reservation is for 12 noon. The reservation is good for 2 hours therefore our tables have to be filled before 2pm or we loose them.
