TT Ice Skating Event # 469.5
NEW LOCATION - OSTPARK ICE RINK / OVALI need to go for a nice ice skate...I can't skate anywhere

, so I've included a list of criteria:
1. Rink must be outdoors.
2. Must have good ice.
3. Must be 400+m long...not sure why??
4. Rinkside restaurant / bar must be open in case it gets chilly or I get thirsty.
5. They must NOT play bullshit kiddie music or 'Summer of 69' by Bryan Adams.
6. Can't be too packed with people.
This leaves only 1 option: The Ostpark Rink / Oval.
------INFO-----Date / Time: Sunday January 16th, 4:30-6pm (We will meet at 4:30 in the lobby of the ice rink)
Location: Ostpark Ice Rink (U5 - Michaelibad. The rink is a 5min walk from the UBahn station)
Cost: ~3€ for admission and ~3€ for skate rental (must bring ID along as usual)
See map below for exact location. The red mark labelled 'Eisschnellaufbahn' is your target. The walk through Ostpark takes aboot 5mins from the Michaelibad U5 station.
Hope to see you there this Sunday!! This is the best place to skate in Munich!! Oh yeah, it's possible we could hit 'Dicker Mann' later for a few beers...if there's enough interest.

We'll also be shopping for skates for Blimeygirl tomorrow. Thinking of trying the usual suspects in town (Schuster,
Karstadt Sport etc) Also gonna try Bittl. Does anyone know any other good places?

Jan 17 2005, 9:55 am
Yeah it was great there. Are there sessions there where you can try out your hand at speed skating and do they hire out speed skates? I wouldnt mind having a go at that! Might just be the speed fix that I need!

I'm thinking of making this a weekly event (skating 4:30-6pm on Sunday), with a 'skating stammtisch' afterwards at Dicker Mann. The portions there last night were HUGE!! What do you guys think??

Jan 24 2005, 11:30 am
There was no TT organized skating this weekend. Sorry. However, I ran by the Nymphenburg canal yesterday and people were skating on the middle part of the canal! The ice, I guess is thick enough. I might go for a skate today...we'll see. We have to organize a pick-up hockey game on the canal one of these days!!
Tom17
Jan 24 2005, 11:35 am
We should do that soon, before it starts melting! I think I can stop enough now to just about play

sports world opposite oez. 39.99€ for the skates (bauer) and 6.99 for the bag.
can someone please tell me what the clips that go on the blades are called, that stop the blades being exposed? i wanted to ask but couldnt find the words, in english of german.
Pieman
Jan 26 2005, 12:10 pm
Aren't they called bladeguards or blade protectors? Probably schlittschutz or something similar in german
Blimeygirl
Jan 26 2005, 12:12 pm
Yeah was also mulling over 'skate guards' or 'blade guards' in my head. Think in the Great White North we just called them 'skate guards'. Will let resident skating nut Canuck field this one tho

Do not have a clue about German. Still get confused that there are different words for 'ice skates'
